Would like thoughts on the Weaver Kaspa 3-12x50mm Rifle Scope as a first scope purchase. I have no idea what makes a scope stand out from the crowd. My research has me feeling for the listed prices and the tech specs this is a good starting point. Also i not sure if I can even find a retailer who stocks this scope in Canada, could use a hand with that too.

New and looking to get educated,
M

A kaspa came on my buddies Axis II package. It hasn't failed in over 140 rounds of 30-06.

It's nothing special though. I'd pony up the cash for something near the $300 mark like a Leupold vx1, Vortex Diamondback, or whatever Nikon offers in that price range.

Also if this is for a hunting rifle i wouldn't get a 50mm bell either. Too heavy, too cumbersome.

The Kaspa is OK given the price range, about on par with a Bushnell Trophy or Vortex Crossfire. I'd recommend either a Weaver Classic V series, Bushnell Elite 3500, Burris Fullfield E1 or Leupold VX-1 for about $100-$150 more.

Glad i asked. I wont waste anymore time trying to find a dealer.

On to the next.

There is a reason why not many Canadian dealers inventory Weaver scopes. They are OK but nothing special in any price range and ATK does little to improve or market this line very much. You will find much better offerings from Leupold, Nikon, Zeiss, Vortex and others that have constant development and improvement. Even Bushnell offers better choices and all of the previously mentioned optics are widely available and serviced in Canada. Phil.
