Not sure if this would be technically gunsmithing, so mods feel free to move if it needs moving.

After some frustrating trips to the range to try and sight in a sporterised swede Mauser i have finally discovered that it's had the wrong weaver mounts on the whole time. It had a weaver #45 and #75, when it should have a #46 and #55.

So frustration aside, now i need to decide what i want to use to replace them. I already have weaver style rings, so i'm going to stick with that system instead of the dovetail type.

I can find the weaver bases just about anywhere, so they should be easy to find, but i have also seen a 1 piece rail by Sun Optics available online. The general consensus is that they make some pretty junky stuff, but is there much to screw up on with a piece of rail and 4 screws?

Should i just stick with the tried and true weaver bases, or is there any other mount that would work better that still uses a weaver style ring?

I think you answered your own question.....personally I use weaver or weaver styled STEEL bases....
there are many co's that make weaver styled bases

Weaver makes the Grand Slam bases, it's the same as the alu ones, but better looking and all steel. Just add an "S" to the base number.

You want to know if you should choose a product from a company known for making junk, or a tried and true product from Weaver. I think you already figured it out.

The steel weaver bases Baribal mentioned are very good.

Went with the weaver mounts, which i could pick up local and not have to wait on them, but the damn screws are too long that came with the bases. I can't put the bolt in all the way. Is there an easy way to file them down a bit, or just lots of frustration and hurt feelings?
