I know there's been lots of discussion on the POSP scopes in the past, but I don't think anyone has talked about the POSPs with the Weaver mount (like this 6x POSP WD from interammo).

Can these weaver mount POSPs be mounted on a bolt action with a one piece picatinny rail mount, and if so, are they any good in that role, or are POSPs best used with the russian side mounts on combloc guns.

Thanks,

B

I had a 8x42 weaver on a M14 but it sat too high for my liking on a ARMS mount. It then sat on a flat top AR where it served me well untill it was replaced with a Vortex.

Since the mount is integral, you dont have as much flexibility in the height. The glass was great, and I liked the reticle with the illumination. The tube and adjustments, were very.....Russian.

The eye relief is short at 3" or so. The reticle moves with adjustment, as opposed to the image.

Sure can.
4x24 Made in Belarus mounted on a Norinco JW-103 (7.62x39)

I believe a picatinny rail is same width...don't have one. I'm not sure if the scope you're talking about is similar...your link led me to ?? A mag-box? SKS? dunno...

From what I was once told, Weaver accessories will fit on Picatinny rails. But is that actually true?

I'm pretty sure weaver base is same width as picatinny rails and, the "cross bolt" on weaver's fir into picatinny rails also.

That scope should fit into rings* and, onto a base. POSP are fun to look through...I find the Chevron to be very "quick pointing".

* EDIT:

It would appear (now full picture downloaded over slow dialup) that the attachment on the scope is integral and, kind of short to reach over the action of a bolt rifle(as normal Weaver bases would need) Possibly a single base weaver? What did they say at interammo?

Unfortunately the BELOMO and other ex-Soviet factory scopes often seem to be designed to use available parts and designs rather than meet user needs/market requirements

It took the ex-soviet factories who knows how many years to figure out that scopes with a ballistic cam for 7.62x54R were of limited interest to people using other calibres.

Finally they produced a 1MOA graduated elevation scale; I don't know if 1/2MOA or 1/4 MOA has ever been produced.

It's pretty obvious that a 1.5-6 zoom or a 1-4 zoom with long eye relief would sell, but a fixed 8x?

No one I'm aware of is producing a milspec scout rifle scope in say 1-4x, or the mounts for one.

With their lower manufacturing costs they could be providing ballistic cams with their scopes for all kinds of calibres and bullet weights. It's not like the data isn't available and the cams don't cost much to produce once the design is worked out. At least they could work out a range card for different calibres. That would be a selling point for a lot of people.

They seem to love overly high mounts too. Their side rail is a great system, but no one bothers to make suitable bases for common commercial rifles, or mounts of the appropriate height.

You'd also think that by now they could engrave the adjustment markings on the knobs in English and include a proper translation of the manuals. How hard would that be?

They can certainly produce the goods in the former Soviet Union, but I guess they're just not that interested in the export trade. Perhaps they feel what they have is "good enough", and the idea of designing products to create sales, rather than fill a basic requirement is still foreign to their way of thinking and operating.

But with IOR scopes getting so expensive there is now a good opening for milspec glass at a lower price.

Even now, most of the people selling this stuff in NA don't seem to have much a clue about the info that potential buyers and users would need. Or much interest in getting it, from what I've seen.

Hmmmm, interesting.
I am considering trying on an ar15.
It has a full front sight so the mounting height might be an asset.

Just want a cheapish scope to mess around with.
