What are the actual chances of an old weaver actually failing on a hunting rifle that is sighted in and rarely changed? While I've heard of scope failures-I've never actually had one[my old bushnell scopechief still is bright and clear,no fogging and the reticules in placeand my 30 year old leupolds still function and look like they did new.]I have an old steel tube K-4 WEAVER,but never mounted it on a 303,reading too many horror stories of failed scopes.

I've probably got 20 or so Weavers of various vintages, and I've had one fail. Had a cracked front lense lock ring (came on the rifle I bought). Worked for a couple of seasons before it started fogging. Recoil didn't seem to matter that much, the rifle was a 338 Win Mag. I like them. - dan
