Weaver scopes: "K" vs "V" models?

I've got a couple of Weaver scopes that I find are excellent value for the money. They are both older "K" models with fixed magnification.

I'm wondering how their variable models compare as far as image clarity and low light performance. I'm thinking mostly of the 3-9 model.

Does anyone have any experience with both styles and an opinion of the performance of the variables, or any other advice that may help?

i have only used the fixed power k models. have been unable to break them, i think there good value for the dollar.

I use a weaver v16 for long range shooting,awesome optics and adjustment repeatability.
