I have a 1903 Mannlicher Schoenauer carbine that I bought here. It came with a Weaver side mount (not installed), that the seller said was correct for this rifle., but it isn't. It has the angled base, marked " 1", that would place the scope way off to the starboard side. Can anyone tell me correct base model # ??
If you have one for sale, let me know. I would also be interested in other brands of scope mounts for a 1903 MS.

I think that you would run into the same issue with a Weaver No. 1 side mount base on a Savage 340 rifle - will fit the curve of the receiver wall - will fit the hole spacing - but will put the scope off to right of centre line of barrel. May or may not bother the owner. Assume that you sight in to be perfectly "on" with centre of your 2" diameter group at 100 yards. So at 200 yards, the centre of the now 4" group will be off to the left by the amount that your scope is off to the right of the bore centre line on your receiver. Most shooters could not show that - especially without an AO scope and with any wind at all. Your 1903 MS is not a high end target rifle - do not expect it to perform like one??

I just looked on the WeaverOptics.com listing - nothing for that rifle - for the Savage 340 it says to refer to note #14 - "14. Bolt clearance problem may exist and scope will not be centered." So, even Weaver knows their product does not fit perfectly on all guns that they list, and that particular rifle of yours is not even listed - so you will be like having a "custom" thing made - to work on that rifle - maybe that No. 1 base is a close as you will get, short of having one milled for you.

OP - go here: https://www.americanrifleman.org/content/the-1903-mannlicher-schoenauer-carbine/ - in that article, it says that Earnest Hemingway had a scope mount fitted to a 1903 MS carbine - prior to 1933 - so it can be done - or, at least "used" to be done - but is no pictures in that article of that carbine with a scope on it - maybe a clue for you to start to find out how it used to be done?

Potashminer,
I too checked the weaver chart, with the same result. What I need is someone who has an old Weaver chart, from the 30's, 40's or 50's, to look and see what base they recommend.
Also, if anyone has a Shooters Bible from the 50's (anyone??), they apparently have extensive info on scoping old rifles like this.

That's correct. Griffin and Howe, Kahles, Redfield, Paul Jaeger and possibly Leupold, all made mounts for these rifles. I am just trying to work with the Weaver because I have it in hand.

In the Mannlicher Collectors newsletter, there are always ads for scope mounts, usually WTB, occasionally WTS.
