So I wanted to upgrade the mounting system I have on my Savage F/TR's.

I ordered some new accessories from Weaver... never been a fan of them but I thought I would give these a try.

I got these new tactical bases and 6 hole tactical rings... to bad the bases arnt machined properly...

Makes me a bit scared about mounting leupold's best scopes in these rings if they can't make the bases right. I have used Leupolds STD bases and rings and on all my guns they dont mark the scope I hope these Weavers dont leave ring marks.

Hope Weaver will send me some new ones and in the mean time I can file down this area.

hope Weaver will fix it for you....

well, never been a fun of Weaver my self. so, you get what you pay for :)

They didn't cost 200 bucks like some other steel bases but they where pricey enough...

Ill post some pics of them all mounted up.

I am not putting down Weaver its is a mistake that either the machine operator or robot made and no one caught it...

What's wrong?

Your not talking about the lip on the front at the back are you?

It's a recoil lug. *good feature*
It's not a flaw.

Even says right on there web site.

I did some checking and I forgot my savage F/TR is quite a bit different then other savages...

Here is the problem :) my action is solid not like the majority of other savages out there... on weaver site it says fits savage short action with accutrigger which my gun is :) so I think I might just carefully file away that edge and mount it up...

Anyone see any issues with carefully removing that lip "recoil lug" down to the same profile as the rest of the base?

And for anyone thinking of getting these products there is nothing wrong with them its the application I was intending on using them for its my fault not Weavers.

Looks awesome I just wish it would have been installed yesterday... I need to move the scope back more as I am straining to move my head close enough to get a proper sight picture the way its mounted now. The picatinny rail will allow me to move it almost 2 more inches back.

Man nothing worse than pulling ur head to fit the scope.

You should be fine with removing the lug.

If I was you I would bed the rail.

Put the rail on and only screw down the front. If you have flex and can see light pass threw the action and rail were it mounts at the back, forsure bed it.

I am working on fileing it down... made a poor choice of tape to protect it I used that silver aluminum tape figure it would provide more protection then any other tape while fileing its a pain to get off now lol

Well here it is...

One thing I dont really like about this base is its designed for these other guns so its notched where the ejection port is... I'd prefer that its straight across for my action lets just say this is going to be temporary... I been having some issues trying to get this gun to shoot like its suposed to... might be the fact that after about a year of owning it just found out the action bolts where quite loose... pulled out the toruqe wrench and correct that... havent shot it yet though to see if that was the issue... its shot .75moa almost all the time... the action bolts could atribute to the fact I could clover group and then have one flyer... second issue is the dual mounts and windage screw I trust leupolds mounts but I am wondering if this system will produce any better results for me... I know most shooters are using a one piece base now.

Now for the fun part seeing if my measurements are right and my scope clears the barrel :)
