Interestingly, the initial instructions for the Pattern 1908 Web Equipment - the first 'universal pattern' British Army web equipment - specifically stated that it was not to be washed ..... but experience must have proven that to be impractical, since the 1913 version of the instructions is worded exactly the same as the Pattern 1937 instructions shown above.
