Got an upcoming opportunity to purchase one or both of these revolvers. The Mk IV is chambered in .38 S&W and looks to be WW2 production. The Mk VI is .455 and I don't know when it was made.

Impressions? Anything I should be mindful of?

Have both. Love them! 38 S&W factory ammo is virtually impossible to find. 455 Webley factory ammo is around (fiochi) but very expensive, approx. $1 per round.

Easy to reload for once you have brass. I use 38 cal cowboy action lead bullets to reload 38 S&W and have had great success loading 455 using 45ACP lead bullets.

Make sure the MKVI hasn't been modified to accept 45ACP ammo. There a few of those floating around, and they don't handle full power 45ACP well (as in blow up).

Shooter's Den in Sudbury was a source for brass and cast bullets when I had a Mk.VI, although I got brass from Buffalo Arms in the U.S. back then, before the current export regulations came in. The Mk. VI is the only Webley I've owned or even fired and I don't expect I'd like any of the others as much, but in your situation "opportunity to purchase either or both" I'd get both. If I couldn't afford both I'd get the Mk.VI first.

If only one, i'd go for the 455 as well. it is a neat gun and as mentioned you can still get ammo for it. i don't know the details but it is likely the more collectable of the 2.

My father had a couple Webley 38s and a few boxes of Dominion ammo. He refused to shoot it because he thought the ammo was probably more collectable than the gun, lol.

You are probably getting these as collectors anyway so maybe ammo is not as big of a deal.

I'm giddy. Went gun shopping today and found a Mk VI for less than I was going to pay for a different one. It's a sweet gun! Pictures don't do enough. Feels tight and the bore is clean. The automatic ejector is downright cool and I love the overall utilitarian look of it. It's a real prize for my collection.
