Does anyone have their 45 ACP webley recipes?

Here's some data I've collected.

Cases: Starline 45 ACP
Bullet: 230 gr lead
OAL: 1.275"
Revolver: Shaved Webley Mk I 4"

Unique:
4.6 gr - 473 fps (59 sd)
4.8 gr - 512 fps (38 sd)
5.0 gr - 562 fps (23 sd)
5.2 gr - 594 fps (12 sd)
5.4 gr - 617 fps (28 sd) - Midway loadmap says between 12,400 - 13,300 psi

Bullseye:
3.4 gr - 508 fps (31 sd)
3.6 gr - 550 fps (33 sd)
3.8 gr - 592 fps (14 sd)
4.0 gr - 618 fps (25 sd) - Midway loadmap says 12,600 PSI

For a 230gr lead bullet seated at 1.275", it looks like 5.2gr Unique and 3.8 bullseye are nice safe loads under 6 tons / 13,500 PSI.
Both hit point of aim at 25m and group sizes have diameter 6-8".

That said, the Webley's 6 tons operating pressure is probably closer to ~15,000-16,000 PSI because of how the british measured proof pressure, so there is probably an even bigger margin of safety: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/2444854-British-Proof-Pressures-CIP-SAAMI-and-the-true-pressures-of-the-455-Webley

What are some of your recipes for 45 ACP in a shaved Webley?

I would just stick with trail boss for plinking. Pretty well idiot proof, cant double charge, way to fluffy so it’s really the best option IMHO

If you wanted more stout loads for bush carry or something like that I would go with unique. I’ll have to dig up my data for unique but I had a max load that was, according to quickload(use at your own risk, it’s just an estimate) within safe pressures for a mk2 and would pump it out at about 800 fps. Needed the longer mk1 .455 cases or have your 265gr bullet seated out so 2 lube grooves were showing.

I don't have much to contribute in terms of load data, as none of my Webleys are shaved - but Trail Boss has been out of production for the better part of 3 years now. If the OP does not already have access to a decent supply of it then they are going to need other options for powder.

They didn’t discontinue trailboss ADI(manufacturer of trailboss and lots of Hodgdon powders)is coming up with better ways to create their powders and is filling other orders. Trailboss will be back at some point when who knows.
