Hi, would like to tilt the weaver rail up a little at one end. Was wondering are there any shims purpose made out there if so who has 'em? Thanx.

TPS steel bases are $85 for 0moa and $90 for 20moa...... its hard not to buy them at that price and not mess with shims... unless they don't make a base for your rifle.... but then there is Farrell which is a bit more... followed by Warne tactical bases...

We stock them all.

I have used aluminum from a beer can, cut a small square to fit, on my 10-22 with leupold bases because I could not get the scope adjustment I needed from the 40mm scope. I have been troubled by the fact that this alters the geometry of the scope base (ie: scope tube is not parallel to barrel) in relation to the barrel. I shimed up the back of the base, so now the scope tube is tilted forward a slight bit. Can anyone clear this up or is it a real problem?

I'm not to clear.

If its a one piece base you will be better off. If its a two piece base with std. rings your scope tube is being exposed to undue stress and you may have problems.

That shim isn't a whole lot of shim so that helps.

If you lapped your rings if you used a one piece base, I doubt you have any worries. The base may bend pending shim location, screw tightness and the bases strength. I think its the lesser of two evils when compared to a two piece base system.

Sounds like overkill right!

In the future, you could use release agent on the required parts and bed the base making sure you don't bend it while it is positioned on the rifle and while the mixture cures. The bedding compound will fill in the voids and reduce the bending possibility of the base.

Hope that helps.

Joe
