Wehrmacht combat footage, WWII

Some color footage there, which is kind of neat. Lot of reality, which is kind of unusual. I would think the guys in the tank that went flying weren" 't having a particularly good day. :D Some of those guys look scared, absolutely s**tless.

Grizz

I couldn't agree more. The submarine section was a bit .. edited. With the torpedo launch and all. That said, I've never seen deck gun action like that before!

What really gets me is no one is wearing ear protection. Oh giant ass artillery cannon beside you? Just plug your ears!

Wonder how many of those soldiers were deaf after the war... gunshots at the range are bad enough but a huge cannon?

Also, why does artillery in WWII footage always sound like it does in 50sec? Is it the shape of the shell?

Usually it's not the boom of the heavy stuff like that, that causes hearing problems. It's usually the crack of the smaller caliber stuff.

I remember hearing of US sailor serving on battleships. They said the 18" guns were loud but not that bad. It was the crack of the anti aircraft guns (1.1" or 20mm or 40mm) that would have your ears ringing hours later.

I'll bet most of those Germans either froze to death, didn't make it back from Russia and didn't survive the Gulag.

Interesting footage from the losing side that crumbled like a Cookie.
