Weihrauch HW-100 story

So a while back I decided to get a repeating PCP air rifle. I looked around and watched youtube vids and was conflicted between the FX Dreamline and Weihrauch HW100 TL or S.

Eventually I settled on the FX Dreamline and was initially impressed, but the romance did not last long. I learned about the cheap multi tube barrel crap they put on the rifle and how it might shoot a good group once in a while that youtubers use to exaggerate the accuracy of the rifle... The cheap fake barrel suffers from thermal expansion and un-anticipated POI shifts then negate any sustained accuracy expectations.

That lead me to the Weihrauch HW100 S. I've had it for a while now and it will be the last rifle I ever sell when I am on my death bed.

The Weihrauch HW100 S has a solid steel barrel and holds a zero without question. I can empty the 14 shot mag into a target and the hole is not large enough for a pellet to fall through.

So, a buddy decides to get one. He liked mine and also thought its the perfect PCP air rifle for his needs. The model he got had a plastic stock, not the wood stock originally on mine.

Well when it arrived, guess what.... Same crappy bunch of tubes fake barrel like the FX Dreamline had. This lead to an investigation of the nomenclature on the various dealer web sites as well as Weihrauch and there is no clear reference to the distinction of different barrels on different models.

It turns out the HW100 TL or S designation is for target model which means a real solid steel barrel.

So my buddy is returning the one he received and is replacing it with the HW100 TL model, which we know he will be happy with.

If you are in the market for such an air rifle, be careful to know the difference and that you get what you actually want. The dealer required more arm twisting to clarify the difference than should be needed for a $1500 air rifle.

The FSB Designation apparently is the cheap light weight bunch of tubes fake barrel. If you place light weight ahead of accuracy you might like the FSB.

Thanks for the post. I've been looking at these (online) recently. Which caliber/power level do you have?

It turns out the HW100 T designation is for target model which means a real solid steel barrel.

"So what's the difference between the H100T and HW100S well essentially in bare metal nothing, but in stock there is a massive difference. While I like the HW100S (Sports Stock) I much prefer the more attractive and in my opinion better handling HW100T (Thumbhole Stock). The stock is well crafted and nice to handle."

The above was quoted from this website, under the "first impressions" heading:

You can verify the above at the HW website, in that all the "S" versions have the sporter stock, and all the "T" versions have the thumbhole stock. The "K" stands for kurz, or short, indicating the carbine version of either model.

I have the .177 model with the full steel barrel and muzzle weight. HW 100 S .177 1050FPS (WIR-AR-060) It's the fastest one they make, but I have it dialed back to about 600 FPS. For my purposes, that's perfect. Apparently at full power you need to be careful what pellets you use or accuracy might go to crap. Pellets need thick skirts at 1050 FPS.

The speed designation on the web site is controlled by barrel length. If one is faster than another there is a barrel length difference. (500 fps model aside)

Have the same rifle sitting in the safe but still unfired, do you use a Hill pump to fill? If so how do you like it?

I fill mine with a scuba tank, but my buddy got a hand pump that has a humidity filter.

It's nice to have both so once the scuba tank gets low you can hand pump it back to the max.

Sounds like he got an 'FSB' version which stands for Full Shrouded Barrel. Pretty easy to see in the pics the difference between the two. I've got an HW100T and it shoots amazing.

I think you are right Steve. I have a S model and yes, super accurate.

Aside from the great accuracy, I really like the mag and how it is impossible to stuff two pellets in the barrel like most PCP repeaters. The cylinder does not rotate unless you pull the trigger with the HW100 and that makes sure you dont accidently stack pellets up in the barrel. Big problem with FX. Also FX had a problem with jamming the mag if the pellet was pushed forward half way then retracted bolt. The mag would rotate and trap the mag in place and it became very difficult to clear. That's not a problem with HW100

Nice rifle. Does it have a preference for a specific ammo? How many shots per fill at the lower velocity?

The HW100 is an excellent PCP. I had two of them, HW100 S in .177 and .22. I tuned the .177 to about 875 fps with 10.34 grain JSB pellets.

The FSB model has the Fully Shrouded Barrel which is supposed to have an integrated moderator for sound reduction. These shouldn't be available in Canada and weren't when I bought my Weihrauch rifles about 9 years ago.

I emptied 14 shots into a target from 10 yards using these pellets and a pellet would not fall through the hole.

Most decent pellets shoot quite well, it just depends how perfect you want it. For my needs I really like the feedback I get from the best performing pellets.

As for shots per fill, sorry but I don't track my mileage. I have no complaints though.

They call it FSB but it has been modified to meet Canadians rules. It is not suppressed in any way.

From what I gathered, shrouded barrels are tolerated just as long as the end are not threaded.

Pretty stupid a few springs and washers would make you a criminal...
