is the scope shot out?

Optics Newb here!

I just bought a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x42 ... and am concerned about this ''shot out'' business!!! is there something one can do to reduce the risk? ... other than not shooting... which we all know is out of the gad damn question!!

Buy new, don't put it on a high recoiling rifle or a pellet gun! Nikon Monarch's are pretty quality scopes, I doubt you'll have any serious problems with it...

A scope that is "shot out" basically has fallen apart under recoil. Won't hold zero; windage & elevation adjustments aren't true or something else is broke.
In short: A cheap p.o.s. scope....
