Weird Question about MTM boxes

Hello all reloaders,
I have a simple but strange question for the experienced among you.

Does anyone know from personal experience if there an MTM 50, 60, or 100 round ammo box or boxes that fit both .223 REM and 7.62x39 Russian loaded rounds?

I have looked at the MTM x-reference list, and then when I have gone to find one they list one or the other does not fit, or fits so loosly that they fall out of the holes and roll around.

This does not have to be an expensive box, just something for storage. I have not found anything locally, but I would like to have some degree of confidence that I am ordering the correct product before I do a mail-order.

Thanks

... Firstly, I've been using MTM Boxes both for "reloads" and for the occasion when I've wanted to cry "spare" ammunition. They're a great product, with absolutely no breakages occurring in my case! But to get back to the original question, you have a couple of choices, easiest is to try the desired cartridges in on one of the cases, either owned by a friend, or at the store , for a trial fit. failing that, look in the catalog for rounds that are shown that are close to the desired ones. ( The fit is generally fairly generous ! ) Size wise, th 223 for example is close enough to the 222, guessing, but the 30-30 MIGHT be close enough to 7.62x39. I don't have loaded rounds to do a personal trial and error, but I've a number of MTM cases that I used to use for 223 (50 rounds ) and the cost is low enough that realistically, I'm sure you could afford to buy boxes for each caliber ? ...... If all else fails, I guess, an e-mail directly to MTM would be the way to go . ..... David K

... Just to "double check" . You are looking for one (1) box that fits both calibers ? ...... If so, bear in mind that one is classified as small rifle and the other medium, so getting one doing double service might be an impossibility without a lot of rattling around ( foam is your friend ! ) Also keep your eyes open at Shows and the local Gun Stores for "used" boxes" ( Here a Dishwasher is your friend! )... Yep. And yes, I've been carrrying around a couple of rounds of each and trying them whereever possible. As this process is getting to be a pain in the bum (literally when I sit on them), I thought I'd ask here.

I'll bet there is one. RS-S-50 is my best guess at the moment. If I could find one....

I have MTM Case-Gard RS100 for 222, 223, 222MAG, 6x47, 7mmTCu and it will fit 7.62 x 39mm but neck or bullet facing down only. I have a Case-Gard 50 for 17/223 REM, 222 Rem Mag, 204 Ruger and you physically can jam 7.62 x 39 mm in it and get the lid closed but for practical purpose I'll just say it does not fit.

I have a couple 100rd square MTM boxes that used to have the rounds falling out in the box etc. Try taking out the black cartridge insert inside the box and flipping or rotating it. It sits in several different depths this way -maybe by design(?). Hope that helps.

okay

I have posted this before .. if I were you I would buy two different coloured boxes of the proper calibre .. I have seen far too many people grab what they thought was the proper rounds only to discover that they showed up at the range with the .223 rifle and the 7.62x 39 rounds ..

Yah. Been there, seen that.
I did, eventually, find the box that I want. It's the RS-S-50. It fits both sizes of round nicely, both bullet up and bullet down. Not as fancy as the Case-Gard, but then they're also about half the price.

I found them in opaque green and tranparent blue, so I can separate by color and not get the wrong calibre by accident. (I also label my boxes, and as long as the labels don't fall off that helps a lot).

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, and to Greg for the PM with further info.
