Back in '86 on opening day I went to the local gunshop and bought a nice fullwood 1916 BSA No1mk111 Enfield and two boxes of ammo.($100)
I picked up some targets and went to a spot out in the bush to sight in the old girl. After about 30 rounds I stopped to cool it off and replaced my target with a fresh one without all the holes. :D I walked back to the truck and turned to see a nice little two pointer walking right past my 50 yard target.
I dropped another 180 grain Imperial Sabretip into the chamber and nailed it at about 60 yards. That was an unlucky deer,I wonder why he walked across where all the noise was coming from??

likely as he was smaller he was rejected by all the other deer and called names but laking the ability to fly nor having a red nose he became suicidal and you were the best thing to happen to him

I was out shooting one afternoon, and had just fired off some groups. Walked up to the target and back, sat down, and just to the left of my target, comes a line of bucks. Two 10-points, two 8-points, and two 6-points, ( I counted all the points through my scope.:))

They strutted across the field and hopped the fence and grazed on the other side, while I blasted some more targets. They could not have cared less. In fact, one 6 point came back over the fence and walked toward me and right by my truck at about 10 yds. Didn't care.

Sometimes I think we give animals too much credit for being smart, instead of just luck that the season wasn't open...

I was @ the range a couple yrs ago blasting away with my "tacticool" blaster :)rolleyes:) and noticed a 10pt moose strolling along the tree line about 20yds to my left. My lab thought it was cool and gave chase.

Well, here's a strange but true one for you. Back in 1984 I went hunting with my neighbor. I loaned him my 12 guage single and a handful of slugs while I took my trusty old Bubba'd No4 Mk 1 Savage .303. We walked back and through my Dad's partially grown up, old back field and squirrels were chattering like crazy down at the lower gate and I quietly told him that something was down there getting them annoyed so we quietly worked our way down to the old exit gate. We both saw the 4 point buck standing by the fence line at the same time. It was approximnately 60 to 70 yards from where we stood. My neighbor Robin, was standing about 15 feet to my left and we both fired. The deer dropped like a stone and then got up and plunged through the fence and dissapeared, obviously hit. We waited about 30 minutes and then went down and there was a big splash of blood and lots of blood trail to follow, so off we went, arguing about who hit the deer etc. I still remember Robin saying, did you see how he dropped, I know I smoked him with that big slug. GRIN I replied, Robin, I never missed a deer at 70 yards or less with this gun ever and that was an open shot. I bet we both hit him!Well, to make a long story short, we found the buck about 120 yards or so from where it was hit and gutted it and found a single 12 guage slug entrance hole and nothing else. I said " Rob, I can't believe I missed but it looks like it is your deer". We dragged the deer out and hung it from the tractor and cleaned it up at the farm house and when cleaning it I noticed a long ragged tear up the left tender loin (this was the opposite tenderloin from where we fired) so being the curious soul I am I felt around with my fingers and followed along and the tear ended up in a hole in the hip joint area of the deer and I could just feel the chunk of metal in there and it was very big and shapped strange. I just knew that was the 12 guage slug but why was it way back there from a broad side shot and it felt oddly large. I decided to perform surgery with my hunting knife and after a couple minutes I pulled out the offending chunk of metal. I thought I saw copper glint through the mess so I reached down and washed it off in the bucket of hot water I had brought out to clean up with and sure enough, there was a 12 guage slug AND an expanded 150 grain . 303 bullet STUCK together with the bullet impacting on the one back side of the slug a bit off center. I near fainted! I ran screaming to the house where my Dad and Robin were having a cup of tea and next thing you know there were 3 grown men babbling about a "once in a lifetime event" GRIN . After all these years I still shake my head when I look at those two projectiles and fit them together. I still have the bullet and slug and did pry them apart to properly clean them as there was only a small bit of copper locking them together but they fit together like a jig saw puzzle. If anyone wants to see them I can snap a few pictures of them and post them. Definitely the weirdest thing I ever personally had happen shooting related. Oh! Before someone asks, Rob and I agreed to share the deer and I tagged it. Robin wanted to hunt for a bigger deer which he ended up getting a few days later, before this one was even cut up for the freezer. I ended up getting the whole thing as he didn't need any extra meat after he shot the 12 point "brontosaurus" a few days later.

I had a few minutes to spare so I went into my "trinkets and treasures box" and dug out the film container with the slug and bullet in it. Here's a couple pics.

Shoot a bullet with another bullet, that's Mythbusters stuff. I would say for sure that half that critter belongs to the other shooter. Good story,I can't top that, yet....:D

years back I was shooting on the 300 yard range at Oshawa, and a turkey walk right out on the range (in the middle of a live range, and shots going down).. I had to stop shooting cause I was laughing so hard, and didn't want anyone to think that I was going to shoot the stupid bird..

crazy..

I had the same thing happen to me about 5-7 years back. and the same gun too but two of them.
Even had a tag in my back pocket.
HOWEVER both me and my buddy had fired off all our rounds so all we could do was chase the deer off the gravel road/driveway we were walking down?

Yes! The slug was definitely there first! Only the one entrance hole though, so we were never able to determine if the two projectiles hit just outside the deers body or if they both entered through the same hole and struck inside the deer. Either way, it was definitely a really unbelievable thing to happen. It still leaves me scratching my head 24 years later.

My younger brother Chuck, shot a big 10 pointer buck in NB one year. Funny thing how it happened. He was walking down a logging road and saw a partridge (aka Ruffed Grouse, in NB anyway), well Chuck being Chuck promptly shot it with his .32 Winchester Special, took the head off you know... Anyway about a min later, storming out of the woods comes this big buck,,, basically saying, "WHAT THE HELL IS ALL THIS NOISE?" Well Chuck after crapping his pants, shoots the buck point blank through the neck.... Deer are curious creatures and present us with wierd opportunities sometimes....

I awoke before everyone else at the Wildwood Alberta range, after ariving in the dark to camp the night and get an early morning to zero before the match. I started hauling my gear to the range and just as the sun rose up to meet me that morning, I glanced downrange to see that the guys had put out two wooden moose cut-outs how nice I said out loud The cut outs were of a big old cow and her calf and were about at the 150 yd mark. As I returned from the truck with my second hand full, I glanced down the range to see the cow and her calf walk almost silently accross the range. I stood and stared in complete disbelief, mostly because it was a magnificent sight and I realized that none of my fellow competitors, who were just getting up would ever believe me!

Young and stupid story,Bow hunting years ago in the stand mid afternoon rut was on.
A doe ran right under the stand and headed straight away, grabbed the bow off hook,to late put bow on hook.
Buck in pursuit of doe follows same route bow on hook.
Learning experience.

Before deer season about 5 years back, I was sighting in a rifle at my buddy's deer camp range. The shooting bench is on the front porch of the camp.I fired several shots for group, and since I had only a 1.5 power scope walked down to check it out. As I walked up to the backstop to check the target, a big doe jumped up from behind the backstop and ran to my left. Wilf says some year he is going to sit on his front porch and get his deer from there.
