Well, here's a strange but true one for you. Back in 1984 I went hunting with my neighbor. I loaned him my 12 guage single and a handful of slugs while I took my trusty old Bubba'd No4 Mk 1 Savage .303. We walked back and through my Dad's partially grown up, old back field and squirrels were chattering like crazy down at the lower gate and I quietly told him that something was down there getting them annoyed so we quietly worked our way down to the old exit gate. We both saw the 4 point buck standing by the fence line at the same time. It was approximnately 60 to 70 yards from where we stood. My neighbor Robin, was standing about 15 feet to my left and we both fired. The deer dropped like a stone and then got up and plunged through the fence and dissapeared, obviously hit. We waited about 30 minutes and then went down and there was a big splash of blood and lots of blood trail to follow, so off we went, arguing about who hit the deer etc. I still remember Robin saying, did you see how he dropped, I know I smoked him with that big slug. GRIN I replied, Robin, I never missed a deer at 70 yards or less with this gun ever and that was an open shot. I bet we both hit him!Well, to make a long story short, we found the buck about 120 yards or so from where it was hit and gutted it and found a single 12 guage slug entrance hole and nothing else. I said " Rob, I can't believe I missed but it looks like it is your deer". We dragged the deer out and hung it from the tractor and cleaned it up at the farm house and when cleaning it I noticed a long ragged tear up the left tender loin (this was the opposite tenderloin from where we fired) so being the curious soul I am I felt around with my fingers and followed along and the tear ended up in a hole in the hip joint area of the deer and I could just feel the chunk of metal in there and it was very big and shapped strange. I just knew that was the 12 guage slug but why was it way back there from a broad side shot and it felt oddly large. I decided to perform surgery with my hunting knife and after a couple minutes I pulled out the offending chunk of metal. I thought I saw copper glint through the mess so I reached down and washed it off in the bucket of hot water I had brought out to clean up with and sure enough, there was a 12 guage slug AND an expanded 150 grain . 303 bullet STUCK together with the bullet impacting on the one back side of the slug a bit off center. I near fainted! I ran screaming to the house where my Dad and Robin were having a cup of tea and next thing you know there were 3 grown men babbling about a "once in a lifetime event" GRIN . After all these years I still shake my head when I look at those two projectiles and fit them together. I still have the bullet and slug and did pry them apart to properly clean them as there was only a small bit of copper locking them together but they fit together like a jig saw puzzle. If anyone wants to see them I can snap a few pictures of them and post them. Definitely the weirdest thing I ever personally had happen shooting related. Oh! Before someone asks, Rob and I agreed to share the deer and I tagged it. Robin wanted to hunt for a bigger deer which he ended up getting a few days later, before this one was even cut up for the freezer. I ended up getting the whole thing as he didn't need any extra meat after he shot the 12 point "brontosaurus" a few days later.
