Weird Whelen Data

As has been mentioned above...my "go-to" Whelen load has settled in as a 250 grain Speer Hot-Cor bullet over 59 grains of RL15. It shoots really well in my Remington 700 Classic rifle, and zeroed at 3" high at 100 yards, is still about an inch high at 200 yards...so it's gotta' be moving along pretty well.
I have used the 250 Speer spitzer in both the 358 win and the 358 Norma Mag, and have seen them used in the 35 Whelen for more than 25 years.
It is about the most versatile bullet in 35 cal available, all the way from 2200 to 2900 fps, and in from 1:10 to 1:16 twists.
Saw a bullet come apart one time. Direct hit from at 358 Win on big bone of a bull moose. Dead right there, but bullet did come apart. Other than that, all held together.
River Rat on the board here, has shot a 358 Norma for 35 years or so, and has a collection of expanded bullets taken from game shot from 25 to more than 300 yd. They are all advertising-perfect expansions.

All the .35 Cal. rifle fans may be interested in the cast bullet being tried by M.T. Chambers Supply and should be avail....it is a 250gr.Flat point gas check bullet in .358" or .359" cast hard and either heat treated, 10-1, linotype or monotype. Not for everyone, fantastic penetration!!
