Weld together a VZ/AK mag and a Savage short action mag?

I have a Savage Scout in 7.62x39 (the older FCM Model 10). I have a short-action mag that doesn't have the necessary 7.62x39 adapter, and wondered ... since I have to take it apart and modify it anyway, why not try to combine it with a proper AK/VZ mag and build a high-capacity mag?

Anyone ever tried this with something similar, maybe the old classic Lee Enfield in 7.62x39 trick?
 
The Mag {body} itself, Normal/long AK/VZ mags, if used higher then 5 rnd, no mater what it goes in, would be prohibited. Even an empty Body of the mag, not pinned, would be prohibited. If you get a "Pistol 7.62" mag, then you have 10 rnds to play with. The long AK/VZ mag, even if taken apart, still need to be rivited. There was a case, where someone had court over an AR mag Body Only, as it was still easily made full capacity, with the other parts. So, if you chopped the Top/lips off the {AK/VZ} mag, welded different Top/lips form the old Short Action mag, would that Body still fall under prohibited? They chop the Lips off for Dewats, don't think they need pinned at that point, but they become Non Functioning. So it's def. a possible gray' area. I'd make it using a Legal' 10 rnd 762 pistol mag.
 
As has been stated - it's probably a grey area, but here are my thoughts. Once you remove the top part (feed lips etc.) it is no longer an AK magazine as it will no longer fit/work in that firearm. In the case of the mag body that Johnny mentioned, it would still fit and work in an AR. Even without the springs and follower it would still lock into a magwell.

If you went out to your shop and bent a brand new magazine out of sheet metal, and then welded the Savage magazine top to it - would that not be a custom magazine for a bolt action. I would think that this would be a similar situation - this would be a custom made magazine. Of course you have to realize that I would come down on the side of it being okay, as I've been contemplating doing the same thing, but with a Browning BLR magazine/M-305 magazine.

Making an all-new mag seems a lot of work compared to adapting an already-perfected design by cutting off the feed lips and welding it into a new body.

There are companies in the UK who do this with BLR mags and Ruger high-cap bodies, I've seen it done.
 
Here's some more Crazy ideas lol: How many rounds do you need? Guess the appeal is for Over 10 right? No limit on Bolt action, right? If even 10 rnd were hard to find or expensive, What about using 7.62x51 10 rnd metal MDT mags, like there is a hack, to make Savage Axis mags out of them, & Stack & Tack them to make a 20rnd! but obvi. cut the mag Back, so it fits the x39. I always wondered if cutting down/back a x51 mag down to x39 size, folding it over to make the new back, then tacking on the Model 10 or whatever mag you are trying to make, then you need to find or fit the spring to work too...mehh~ I dunno, it's not Rocket Science right? lol but I think there is already 10 rnd Scout mags anyway...be way easier to just make from scratch as said above..I have seen 2 10rnd mags made into 1 20 rnd mag- for Bolt Action of course! Need More Coffee :p

Still illegal in Canada. AK/VZ mags are limited to 5 no matter what rifle you attempt to put them in.

Do I agree with this ? Hell no ! Rivets don’t belong on magazines and we should be allowed to use standard capacity magazines. But its Canada and we have a lot of dumb laws.

To be clear--I am in no way proposing I make a VZ mag. I'm proposing I destroy one, then make something else from the parts.
