Just curious - if a firearm has a blob of weld in the chamber, is it possible to have this reamed out and still have a usable firearm? Or would you be looking at either having to replace the barrel or ream out the entire barrel and insert a liner?

is this a botched repair job ? or a botched deactivation ? if its the later, id be careful what you do. once a firearm is registered as diactivated its listed as destroyed, if you reactivate it it could get the gunsmith that did it in deep crap. (as they are saposed to be un restoreable after they have been deactivated)

if its a botched repair the weld has possably changed the heat treating in the chamber (hardended some spots and softened others) so it might act wierd on a chamber reamer.

Don't worry - not thinking about anything illegal, just one of the rolling blocks TradeEx has with welded chambers.
So a reline would probably be the only sure fix?

The chamber area has crazy amounts of pressure being placed on it when shooting... I would definitely not want to shoot that gun for fear of it blowing up in my hand (or close to my face/eyes).

Relining is just for low pressure cartridges and I don't know if it addresses the chamber area (I think it is just rifling).

Sounds like you'd need a new barrel.

In my experience ( I bought a welded gun from them) there is a valid reason that the chamber was welded, most likely a crack in the barrel. Possibly a wildly out of spec chamber. Whatever the reason, the chamber was not welded up without there actually being a very good one.

New barrel! Only option. Unless the reline was to something really lightweight, like a .22 rimfire. A new barrel is going to cost about the same as a reline, and then you will have a known good tube on the gun.

Was it one of the shotguns, or one of the rifles? In either case, the actions, if in decent shape, are pretty good candidates for Black Powder cartridges, at Black Powder pressures.

Cheers
