Welded scope bases

Is there any interest among the Norinco community for solid welded scope bases on their rifles, like the M25 receiver LRB advertises except theirs are solid forged and uses an intermediary rail?

Visualize a receiver in a milling machine with the top trued flat. Without changing the set up, screw and weld a single solid scope rail in place. IMHO, this would remove the fragile screw-base-screw-mount combination of parts that hold scopes on now.

Thoughts?

Wouldn't the process of welding generate a lot of heat in a very small area and cause fatigue/deformed areas?

if it could be done...... and guaranteed not to fail or otherwise ruin a perfectly good receiver..... i say go for it..... and keep me posted on the results hehehe

The alternative to welding a low profile one-piece scope rail onto the receiver would be to machine a consistent profile then drill and tap like a conventional bolt action.

The reason for asking is to discuss ways around the scope grooves and left-sidewall mounting positions. It was OK in 1962 for mounting big Night Vision Devices, but times have changed. We know that all USGI mounts preserve the receiver intact as a rule. But I'm not returning my rifle to QM after an exercise, I am allowed to do what I want. Norinco receivers are cheaper than any production rifle and readily available, for now. The breech ring is fairly thick and there is a lot of extra steel on the rear receiver (clip guide slot, ears and the rest of the base). There is even a flat floor to work with.

here's a pic of how LRB has done it, mind you the dovetails are part of the receiver and not attached after.....
