Welder for gas system unitization?

the risk of doing it on a chinese or other chrome lined barrel would be heat transfer distorting the bore. a really good tig welder with his machine set just right...... and ya, in a pinch it could be done i suppose, but there are obvious risks. welding the unit to the barrel being another one of them LOL
the second reason why it's a sketchy method is that the barrel has a groove between the cylinder boss on barrel and the shoulder. if the band is not positioned just right, the gas band gets caught on that groove and becomes impossible to remove the cylinder from the barrel. the jig has no such groove.

the jig looks just like the portion of the barrel that the gas system normally sits on, in every detail. it all self aligns , splineways, gas lock thread ect.
the base plate and corresponding 3/8" x 3" protruding pin are merely to support the jig and allow it to be rotated in place for each weld position, and also so it can all be clamped into a grounded vice. that's about the best way i can explain it. the jig slides onto the base plate pin like a straw over a pencil if that makes sense
