Bubba cut a little too deep from the front dovetail of a BRNO ZG47 while changing the dovetails to fit some wierd rings - the cut went about 1/3 of the way through the front receiver ring forward of the front dovetail

Can this "groove" in the receiver ring be welded ? or does heat re-treatment come into play? or is it likely now junk?

It is really dependent on the location and size of the spot to be welded up. If in a location well forward of the locking lug seats and limited in size, it may well be possible to TIG weld without too much distortion of the thread.
Take it to someone who knows and let them have a look. Regards, Bill.

Hi
Buuba needs slap on wrist or pay me to fix which is the same thing
The recever can be welded using a procedure that we have developed
it is a TIG Process and both Pre & Post Heat Treatment is required
The repair will be costly but less than a new recever

If the cut is clear of the locking lugs, I'd think as long as you don't try to hang too heavy a barrel on it, and keep the chamber-wall thickness reasonable, you'd be just fine.
Fill the hole with epoxy and paint the rifle.
