no4mk2... purchased last year for 80 dollars, i'm sure this thing has never seen any sort of action, sporterized, nice trigger all around great looking rifle and.....

it shoots freaking great! i had just purchased a bsquare mount for it and put on an old jap bushnell 3-9 and took 2 shots to get it on paper then shot 5 groups all were with an inch. tried 2 kinds of factory ammo both 180's grey winchester and remington powershock (round nose) both with the same success.

i can't believe i have an 303 that is a 1 inch gun at 100 yards. :runaway:

I own one that will go less than an ich sometimes, but it is customized ( NOT Buubba'd!) beyond recognition!
It is a No.4, but the bolt has been modified and tuned, and the tang cut off, with the action bedded in a conventional manner. Barrel was set back, etc.
I normally wears an old 3.5X Kahless scope.
The rust on the barrel is due to the fact that it rode in a dog sled for a nuber of years and a canoe.
The user was not what you'd call "maintainance concious"!
This rifle was put together in the 50's, and is still a very good hunting rig!:dancingbanana:

I cant believe you admitted to the whole country that you own a 303
Oh, never mind him! (despite the pages of accolades a few weeks ago.) ;)
Go to http://www.african-hunter.com/classic_cartridges.htm and you can look right back up that nasty Mr. Bartell's nose.
(Er... that didn't quite come out right, did it? I meant, he's looking DOWN his nose at you and... oh, never mind.)

You've got a shooter and a piece of history and it didn't cost you $1200.00. Good on ya.

Hey, I would love to own a crunchy old 303 in a one piece stock. It's kool, yo.
Well, you need look no further than a P-14, unless you go to a lot of trouble to modify an SMLE like catinthehatt's. (Rust can be added later for that "crunchy" effect if desired.)

Fabulous! Good for you and congratulations. :) A No. 4 MK1 was my first hunting rifle and made my first whitetail kill. They work!

Jeff/1911.

Congratulations on a great find! Don't ever sell that 303 British short. Many turn up their noses at the 303, but will go on and on about the 308 Winchester, never thinking about the fact that the ballistics of the two rounds is not far apart. I have a customized P14, built by Winchester in 1916 that regularly shoots groups under 1" at 100 meters. It favors the 150 Hornady, The 180 Sierra and the 200 gr bullet made by Steve Redgwell, sized to .313". I chronographed my 180 grain load, and it is 2650 or so with 50 grains of W760, shoots ¾" for 3. [don't try this load in your lee-Enfield, please!] I'm going to smoke a Black Bear this fall with it, just to say I have shot something with it. Regards, Eagleye.

todbartell vs the 303

todbartell, just what is the difference between the 308 and 303 not much, I believe it's approx 0.003; if you were to shoot the 303 with good hand loads, Ahhhhhhhhh you'd never go back. Take care Bill.

Brilliant rifles!
I have a #4 and a P14, and have found similar results, and yes hand loading makes them even better. :)
Enjoy!

That's a nice looking rig, cat. Nothing wrong with it.

Clearly, TB has a severe case of enfieldophobia. Come out of the closet tod, celebrate your real feelings, don't fear them! Old rimmed cartridges shooting big fat bullets are ###y.

Great score there!!

Have lots of fun.:D

That's a great way to get started. It's as good as any round to get you hunting and shooting. See if you can find some surplus ammo to get some cheap shooting in. I have a few .303s, I enjoy shooting them.
