Well i split my mossberg 500A barrel, its about a 1 inch split at the tip of the barrel. I believe its a 20'' barrel, what i was think about doing is, cutting the split part off and buying a muzzle break/flashhider for it, then getting someone to silver soulder the muzzle break onto the end of the barrel.

I was thinking about using this muzzle brake....so what do you guys think....

How the hell did you split your barrel?

Well i got a bit of snow in the barrel when i was shooting it last winter early fall time....me and all of my buddies couldnt believe that it split like it did, the snow wasnt even packed in their.....o well learned my lesson, banghead.

mossberg sells accu-choke tubes for their model 500s, cost is about $20, you can cut the split end off, get a gunsmith rethread the barrel and attach a choke tube at the end.

Why???

I think,,,,, no I know, if it was my barrell i'd be tossing it out and replacing it, you,ve probably stessed/damaged more than the tip.
You could end up wearing a barrell if there's more damage that you havn't seen.

Take it to a good gun-smith to ensure you didn't bulge the barrel or anything else. If she clears her vetting slap that breacher on! As mentioned...HELL YA!

Yeah the gunsmith said the barrel was good to go, i tried for 3 months to get a barrel from two separate gun stores and they couldnt get them in. So this is where i am at, He will either silver soulder it on or thread it on. Once i get the brake in the mail from badboybeeson, and the gunsmith has it in his hands he will attach it to the barrel the best way possible. I will upload pictures of the split barrel, and after pictures to show what it looks like.

How do you know the snow wasn't packed in their? If you know something is obstructing your barrel you should take it out immediately and clean the gun before firing. No matter how big the animal is that you are hunting.

In case you didn't know why it happened. It's because the gasses are rocketing through your barrel and if there is something in the barrel the gasses push it. Very hard. And it occasionally pushed sideways into the barrel instead of out the muzzle. My hunter safety instructor had 3 or 4 barrels from random guns that had a fleck of dirt or a little bit of snow in the end. There was even one of the classic banana ends like the cartoons show.

But I guess that is more for other readers, as you already know this.

So i just went and bought a new shotgun as a replacement barrel was 299.99 and a mossberg 500 was 399.99, so now i have a parts gun incase something should happen to my new shotgun. I put pictures up in the shotgun tactical thread.
