Wells Fargo 1873 Colt

So the boss and I were going through a bunch of guns that he had bought in bulk. One was an old Colt 1873. Chambered in 45 Colt and the serial number puts the manufacturing date at 1906. But the coolest aspect was that the bottom of the grip is marked WF & Co, Wells Fargo & Company. Really interesting piece!

How so? Looks pretty close to this one that sold at auction:

Even then we are applying for the Colt Letter to see if it was in fact sold to Wells Fargo.

I think it depends on whether the markings are stamped on or engraved.I believe the original markings were stamped on

My area of interest is pre-1898 and I was unaware of the change in marking in 1905. Quite different than the pre-1905 WF&CO.EX markings.
