The wife and I went for a drive today (good excuse to take the new truck out). We ventured out to the Porcupine Hills again today where I do most of my bow hunting and I was surprised but what I saw. Rather, I was surprised by what I did not see.
The quantity of deer seems to have really taken a hit since last year while the quality of the bucks has also diminished. Granted, last year was a great year. There were lots of deer, lots of big bucks, a great season. I know there are highs and lows but it seems like a fairly dramatic shift. I noticed this over the past few months every time and have heard as much from the local ranchers but seeing it up close and personal for a whole day was a bit disheartening.
That said, I will be out there again this year, at least to start. I know the area, I know the land owners, and I love the experience. But if success is not forthcoming, I will use the opportunity to check out some new terrain
So with that on the table, what do your scouting reports say ?
