Howdy folks:
Well, the other day I went to buy an Uplula loader and an M&P9 Range Kit ended up following me home. :) I did end up with an Uplula loader, so I guess
it's mission accomplished. I've had an M&P40 since 2007/2008ish and I've always been curious about how well the M&P9 would run. Everything I've seen on the
internet would seem to indicate that the S&W M&P9 is an outstanding pistol - I'm soon to find out first hand. Differences that I have noted, now that I have
it home, between my older (I guess the 1st generation) M&P40 and the new M&P9 are not many, but there are a few. Most notable would, of course, be the
trigger: oddly enough the trigger pull is actually heavier (initially 8 lbs), but it seems to have a crisper break and there is less over travel (about 1/8th of an inch)
and a much more pronounced (and tactile) trigger reset at about 1/4 inches. The M&P9 had the same initial grittiness as I experienced with the M&P40, but I soon
remedied that by polishing the bits that rubbed with a bit of emery cloth - a trick that "enefgee" put me onto and thank you by the way. Now the grittiness is gone
and the trigger pull is about 7 lbs. Overall I'm very pleased with the new trigger and I think I'll give the M&P9 a little range time to let it break in before I decide
whether, or not, I should try to get it down the same 5 lbs trigger as the M&P40 (also the result of polishing the bits that rubbed), which I find to be about
perfect. The only other difference I noted was the strength of the mag springs: holy freakin moelly are those mag springs ever strong. My M&P40 mags are a breeze to
load compared to the M&P9; I can see why they provide the Uplula loader. ;)

Anyway, I'm very happy with my new M&P9 and I look forward to breaking it in. If you are wondering why two S&W M&P's, it's simply the best fitting most comfortable pistol
I've ever held and when Smith & Wesson attached the M&P moniker to it, I knew they were going to do their utmost to make it an outstanding gun: too much history and
reputation at stake.

P.S. I picked it up at Wild West in Edmonton (site sponsor) for $640, which is the best price I've seen for the M&P9 range Kit.

nice. I've got two 1911's because I like the feel of them. Though my IWI Jerico 941 9mm feels so good, someday I plan on getting a .40 version.

Multiple guns in the same model, but different calibers is fine by me :)

.... I'll also probably get a .40 1911 sometime as well. :)

I wish S&W would put their reputation in the their Performance Center revolvers!
Sorry had to say it. ;)
When it comes to S&W revolvers, I'm pretty much stuck in the 60's and the 70's (and some of their 1980's stuff).
Let's face it, for twenty or so years Glock was taking over a market that to a very large degree belonged to S&W - in
the US anyway. S&W had no choice but to meet or beat the form, function and quality of what Glock was offering.
In a very real way, I am ecstatic that Glock is so successful: it has forced the other manufacturers to up their game
and we consumers end up with a huge selection of very fine pistols to choose from. Maybe I'm just particular to the S&W
M&P line; it might be my past experience with M&P revolvers (and other S&W revolvers), but I do think that the
striker fired incarnation of the M&P series is a very well designed pistol that is maturing very nicely and I have no doubt
that S&W will do everything it can to keep it relevant to it's intended audience: the Military and Police. Rant over. ;)

No argument from me.
Their old revolvers which I own two are top shelf. This new PC revolver needs working over to attain old S&W quality. Once that's done it's good to go.
After firing the M&P line I have to say that of all the polymers I liked it the best. I would get a C.O.R.E. 9mm or .40 hands down if I didn't like my CZ TS so much.

I am so happy to hear that when you go to the store to buy an accessory, something finds a way to follow you home. I thought that only happened to me. Enjoy the M&P9. I would be the first to say at one point in time I wrote off these pistols as cheap wanna-be Glocks. After spending time with one and eating a considerable amount of crow, I find them a joy to shoot and would recommend one to any one interested in a reliable accurate and inexpensive semi.

I have to admit that the low price of their standard full sized models continues to amaze me: it's fit, finish and performance are all top shelf. I like to believe
the low prices are intended to draw new consumers and increase market share. I'm sure budget minded bureaucracies and various departments can't help but
notice the rave reviews and the low prices, without stopping to give the M&P some serious consideration. Certainly the lower manufacturing costs associated
with the polymer frame play a factor, but S&W continues to market their wares at a fairly substantial discount compared to the Glocks, Springfield XD's and
even the new Sig P320 - all of which are comparable in performance and quality to the M&P. I put it down to an aggressive marketing strategy on S&W's part and
I love it. A full M&P9 Range Kit (with about $200 in accessories and extras) for $640 Cdn. is pretty damned good deal. It's no big surprise that it followed me home. ;)

I guess you haven't shot the PPQ yet...

:d;):p:cool:
No, unfortunately I haven't, because from what I've heard it has an outstanding trigger and I'm sure the PPQ's fine features don't stop at that.
But without trying to sound negative, because I firmly believe improvements in the competition mean improvement in the M&P down the line, the
PPQ is quite a bit more expensive then the standard M&P.

It sure is and it's worth every single penny, lol. I like M&P's and have owned two myself but prefer Glocks for their tactile reset. The trigger is the M&P's achilles heel and those Apex kits aren't cheap.

I'm sure Glocks are fine pistols and if they are your preference, well... then that's great!
