Hello All,

So after a trip to a fine local firearms establishment, an a touch of haggling, I find myself with a 12ga 2 2/4 side by side. And here I am looking for some information on it.

It's marked on the top of the barrels "Long Range Gun" and "Western Arms Corp, Ithaca N.Y." It has a LOW serial number, in the four digit range of 57xx. It's lost a lot of bluing over the years, but retains about 30-40% of what I assume to be original bluing on the barrels. The wood is in fine shape with no major dings and no cracks. It's fitted with a recoil pad marked "Jostam Mfg Co." There's no checkering at all on it.

The action locks up tight and it's a functioning piece. The screws have been removed at some point in it's life, obviously with a bit of a fight or by some moog who wasn't quite proficient in removing fasteners. It's got a rather worn engraving of a hunting dog on both sides of the receiver, but it's still plainly visible. The rib is still tight to the barrels and shows no signs of coming loose.

I managed to scare up this information here which leads me to believe it was made in 1929. I would greatly appreciate any information that people have on this, along with what you would value it at.

The Blue Book of Gun Values puts it at $100 in 60% condition. They don't rate anything below that. Add $25 if it's a single trigger.

The Blue Book is an American publication and Western was an American maker.

The Standard Catalog of Firearms (2003) says that the Western Arms Corp. was started by the Ithaca Gun Company in 1929.

The Long Range Double had walnut stocks that were not checkered. Exec. cond. = $450, V.G. = $350. Add $100 for single trigger. Add $200 for automatic ejectors.

There was a Long Range Double Deluxe model with checkering but the prices are the same.

These were market'd alot of times as "Lefevers" but in fact were bare bones Ithica made boxlock hunting grade guns, great strong actions and work very well. Yours was made for Goose hunting for sure. If you go to the Lefever/Ithaca collectors forum, you can find alot of info. there! The most valuable of these guns are the 28ga and the 410's as very few made and are very sleek little SXS's! I have one in 410, great little partridge gun! cheers Dale Z!
