Looking for a good quality Predator Ecaller.

Are Western Rivers Ecallers any good? Cant find a whole lot of feedback on them. A local supplier has them, Id like to buy local from him but would like to no more about them if anyone has hands on experience with them.
 
Bought one and regret not getting a fox pro. Doesn't handle the cold well, had terrible support when I contacted them about it. I bought it for the advertised remote range but it is very unreliable unless very close to you.

Was it a newer one? I think they adverstise the remote range at 250 I belive....most of the country around here it would probly be under a hundred.
 
E Callers are way over priced. I'm about to begin making my own e caller from scratch using a few spare parts and two raspberry pi computer boards. Total cost to me should be around $75. The audio clips can be purchased online or found for free online at sites that offer them at no cost.

Thats quite the savings from the going retail price.....when you get it done it would nice if you wrote a step by step with pictures on how you did it.

Will do. Its going to be a bit of a technical nightmare as I'm not all that good with some of the components needed, but look up the Raspberry Pi which is what it will be based off of. I'll use two WiFi USB sticks to create a connection between the caller itself and a handheld remote that will send the signal on which call to make. The nice thing is, if it works that is (or should I say, if I can get it to work with my minimal skills lol) you will be able to program any sound you want. The USB WiFi dongles I'm looking at have a distance of around 500 meters with direct line of sight.

Battery x 2
Boxes to hold each device
Battery powered speaker (I have a couple I can try it with)

Sounds good, please start a new thread on the caller build from the start. I'm sure there are others on here that will be able to help out with problems encountered along the way. :)
 
That's a great idea.... I will. Yesterday I posted in the raspberry pi forums for some advice on where to start on the project and have had a couple responses. I still need to pick up a few more items for it. If I do get it all up and running, I'll post everything on the build including the software scripting which I will probably have to write myself so the two devices can communicate with each other (that I do have a good idea on how to do).
