That time of the year is coming up! I used to hunt turkeys in Ontario but havn't for a few years now, anybody here hunt turkeys in AB/BC? Let's hear some stories from past seasons? It sure is fun and I miss getting out there for them...

They are probably not as abundant here in BC than they are out east. Last year was the first time chasing Toms and boy was it fun. Locating and calling them in is a challenge but having them gobble back at you puts a chill down my spine. Wasn't successful the first time out but it definitely get my blood going.
The only negative is like I said they’re not abundant, and if you live in the Lower Mainland or north of Kelowna you could expect to drive a long time to get to a good spot. It just makes for one very expensive turkey dinner.

They aren't very abundant here in Alberta either. I've seen quite a few of them in southern Alberta, but it takes quite a few years to draw a tag. I've never hunted them before, but I do think it would be fun.

Depends where you go, some areas have great populations of birds, easy to get them chatty in the early spring as well.
All the turkeys in Alberta wear pro-liberal buttons. Seriously, there aren't many. Lot's have been released into the wild, but most end up as coyote fodder. - dan
the birds in Ontario are the Eastern sub-species...and like all turkeys they can be pretty tough to get...I live in Northern Alberta so even the turkeys in the province are a long ways from me...
Is turkey hunting in BC a general season or on a draw as well??
