Wet action, still good?

Hey guys,
I have a Ruger 77 action that spent a fair amount of time on the bottom of a cold Yukon lake. There is significant pitting over the outside of the action. Eveything inside looks good as it was closed. The lugs and face of the bolt look fine as do the lug recesses in the reciver. It's uglier than hell and I can't see being in cold water would hurt it, but thought I'd ask. It was a complete rifle for it's time underwater, the barrel is now off though. Threads seem good and a barrel screws right on. Any thoughts? It sure has character now!

I'd say that its likely fine unless the outside has lost enough material to weaken it. But I doubt thats happened.

Certainly its not like with a fire where the temper is ruined.
 
I had a stianless Ruger MKII stolen form my house by some teenagers severla years ago.

I thoght it was gone, until a year later, in the spring, what do I see stickign out of the snow?

I took it apart, cleaned it, and the only rusty part on it was a bit of the Timney trigger/spring.

I shot it about 60 minutes after I found it.;)
Still just fine...And the Leupold was still zeroed bang on..:D

I called the local RCMP to let them know...

But of course, a .270 I had stolen once is still missing...and is NOT on CPIC AFAIK.:confused:

If the bloody cops would just do thier jobs, all these punks wouldn't be runngin around stealing ####!!:mad:

He didn't have to cut the sling off a skeleton, did he?
 
I just saw the inside of a m77 bolt there were more internal voids in the casting then swiss cheese! I am sure a few external pits are not going to ruin that action!

If you are going to rebarrel a mauser copy why not start with a real mauser action? No cast bolt parts there.

I agree if more punks spent time in lac le barge and less time on the crack pipe we would all be better off.
 
I just cleaned it up and put on a 375/350 Rem. Mag. barrel. It's uglier than hell, but might make a good boat gun again. The stock I have is wrong though, the action has the tang safety and the stock tang cutout is too short. It's a Ruger synthetic stock. Anyone know of any other differences or would it be okay if I dremel out some stock to fit? I don't care about looks at this point. I might be better off trying to swap this stock for something with the right tang. The Lady of Lake LaBarge is close to action again though!
