Savage Mark II FV
Savage Mark II FNS
Mossberg 817

am looking at used aswell ...any other thoughts on diffrent brands?

Well, I've got the Savage 93R17 FV w/BSA Sweet 17 scope and I can't complain. If I were in your position I would be looking at a .22 for costs; .17HMR costs alot more than .22 and, while you can reach out there with a .17, with a .22 you can still shoot accurately out to 100m+. As well, with what you will save on ammo, you can shoot alot more. With what I know after shooting my Savage, I would go with the .22 equivilant of the rifle I have now.
Cheers!!

.17 hmr : 50 rounds costs about 16-21 $ .... .22 LR 525 costs about 18-25$. get a .22 first so you can shoot more.... i know this is not really what you were asking but, i have both and if could only have one rimfire it would be a .22 hands down /

x2 in nova scotia the 17 is a bit much for rabbits and not enough for coyotes imo.but haveing said that they are a fun little cartridge just the same.have a good look at the cz line of rimfires.

Look at the CZ line a little more money but better resale and better rifles. Savages are good but fit and finish is really lacking. 22lr is a lot less to shoot and as much fun.
