What 1911 9mm to buy for under $1000

For me a 1911 is a .45 only :)

I kinda agree...but I do love my .40

I used to be exclusive .45ACP 1911 guy, too.

Over the years.... .22lr; .38 Super, 9mm, 10mm and even .40 S&W have also appeared, though.  :)

I got a SAM Commander in 9mm stainless and pretty impressed with the quality. MUCH better in every way than a Norinco and even Taurus I had before. Probably not as nice a SIG I had but not that far off which is pretty good considering what I paid for it!

Another vote for the Spartan...well anything Sti really....my .45 Spartan is my fave 1911 right now...I'm now measuring all 1911's by this standard...this one really is that good.....

The STI's are very nice but if you ever get the chance to try a Nighthawk custom you'll see a big difference again from other 1911's

never seen anyone have any luck with 9mm kimbers, they all took a lot of fiddling to get them to feed reliably. I love my sti, but i'm shooting a sentry witch is a tick over double the price range. I have shot two of the spartans, and they where solid reliable guns. That said on the cheap end i have had great luck with the norc NP 29, reliable and accurate. lots of sharp edges, but no worse then colts. Haven't handled a SAM so no opinion there yet.

^^^ I've had the same experiences with Kimber but loved the look of the gun and finally moved to STI in both Trojan & Spartan..

I'm wanting one of those S&W 1911 Pro Series. Reading some reviews and they seem pretty positive about it. Check that one out if you haven't decided yet.
Mind you, it's been several years (I could be wrong on this) since there's been anything 'fresh' from the manufacturers on 1911 9mm, so maybe there should be something new coming down the pipe...

If you are willing to look at something other than the 1911 (which I love btw) have a look at the HK SFP9 ... I got one a couple of months back and it's one of the nicest shooting guns I have owned. Kicks a bit more than the 1911 since its lighter (polymer frame) but it's as accurate as my 5" 1911 Kimber 9mm ...

I like shooting at a Range weekly. My wife and I both shoot together and we share all our hand guns. We have a Berretta 92fs 9mm, M&P Core Pro 9mm, Norinco 1911 9mm and other .22 handguns. I have really enjoyed shooting the Norinco but I do not like the fit and finish.

Most issues with Kimbers, or any 1911 is magazines. Once you get decent mags, thats most of the battle
