What .22 Bolt Action Should I GET?

Buy the absolute best .22 you can afford.

Think of it this way, over the course of the gun's life (in excess of 100,000 rounds, if you maintain it properly) you'll spend *at least* $3000 dollars for ammo.

Even $500 or $600 is pretty cheap

....Get the BEST QUALITY .22 you can possibly afford . It's a lifetime purchase for you, and one that than can proudly handed on to the next generation. It's a rifle that will be used and used and never worn out, if maintained properly. It's versatile, fun and cheap to shoot. Have a good look in the used gun rack of the local stores, and keep your eyes open for one of the quality brands. Buy a spare magazine if you can, and a decent scope/mounts and a "brick" of ammunition at the same time, and maybe, if buying from a store, they will give a deal on the package. .... David K.

A Mossberg is a cheap Brno wannabe?

LOL. ;) :)

Back in the 40's While Mossberg was making rifles in the USA, and proudly supporting the Allies, BRNO/CZ was making rifles for Hitler...so both companies had very different outlooks, and designs total unrelated to each other. :D

The Savage is the way to go. I have a .17HMR with the accu-trigger, and its incredible. The fact that you can get a factory rifle with a 2 1/2 pound pull makes the Savage save you at least the cost of a trigger job. They are well made, incredibly accurate rifles, and the customer service is top shelf - AND the rimfire division is in Canada (in Lakefield, ON). I called Savage to buy long takedown screws and a trigger guard for a thumbhole stock for my .17, and they shipped the parts for free, within a week. My experience with this rifle has been awesome. My .17 isn't a firearm....its a bloody laser beam:D

However...under duress.

I have a Savage MkII BV (.22lr, laminate stok heavy barrel) It shoots better than I do, has swivels (nice for bipod), and the accu-trigger. I couldn't be happier. I've got a Bushnell 3-9x40 on it. I think I hear it laughing at me when I shoot it.

+1 on the Marlin.

I have two, one in .22 and one in .22mag. Both were inexpensive and have shot consistantly with no problems for over 20 years.

The .22 lr is the one in the front and my Savage .223 is in the back

If [big if] you could find one, a 541S or 541T Sporter Remington is a quality rimfire that will not disappoint. I have one of each, both have match chambers, and both will outshoot me on any given day. I have many groups in the .2's at 50 shot by these, and even a <2" at 200 yards. I am reluctant to recommend the new Remington 504, as good as it looks and feels, simply because early reports indicate some fall down in the accuracy department. [not consistent] Those who mentioned old Mossbergs know what they are talking about. They may not win any beauty contests, but they are very accurate. I have an old 44US(b) that will shoot right with the CZ's all day. If you are buying new, and don't mind spending a few bucks, the CZ is a great rifle. The Savage and Marlin offerings are usually easier on the budget, and are very respectable shooters. I would recommend you look around, handle a few, count your sheckels, and then buy what looks, and feels right to you. Regards, Eagleye.
