what .22 pistol to get

I would recommend S&W 22A-1 for few reasons.

* affordable
* very easy to takedown for cleaning (few seconds literally)
* my is extremely reliable (just few duds per couple thousand shots, shoots almost anything)
* more accurate than me. Makes one big hole when shooting close distances.
* good ergonomics

I own it (deluxe edition) and I am very happy with it.
 
I have owned them all, and it comes down to 3 options for the best semi auto depending on if you want a combat gun or space gun.

Cobat/duty pistol = S&W MP22 or CZ Kadet

The Kadet is the better gun, and feels like it, but it is $1000, vs the $500 for the MP22.

Space Gun = Ruger MKII/III

I have gone through a lot of 22 pistols trying to find the right one, and settled on the Ruger MKIII Hunter. Look it up. Its ###y as hell! ;)

In a revolver there are other options but again depends on preference. Single action is Ruger Single 10/6 hands down while a double action would lead me to a S&W 17 or 617, but they are pricey.

A space gun = the Beretta Neos. I think it's from a Star Trek movie.
 
I own a Ruger Standard, a Ruger Mark II, a M&P 22 and the S&W K-17 revolver and out of all of them, the S&W M&P 22 is hands down the best gun. I have had ammo that jams in the Rugers feed flawlessly in the M&P time after time. In fact, I haven't been able to find anything that will jam in the M&P, it will feed anything.

Wow. That would be my least favorite out of the ones you listed. It may feed well but I just don't see the reliability coming from a "pot metal" slide.

I have "lots" of 22's and Ruger remains my favorite. Mk3/Single Six.
