What about the 30-06 Ackley Improved?

nrut, could be I'll have to wait and see.
Mr. Leeper, I think the key phase here is a little better. Not backpeddleing as I stand by the belief that straight ones will take more pressure. Just not night and day difference. Good point about the 30-30 primers backing out, probably a pitted chamber that held the case in position. Just kidding on that one. Gunsmiths do see a lot more than us normal gunnuts.

A few cases scream to me that they should be "Improved". A case withan overly long neck or a lot of taper looks like it can be "Improved".

The 30-30, 22-250, 375 H&H and the 6.5x55 have that look. The only Ackleys I own are a 22-250 and a 6.5-08. The 22-250 is a 1:7 F Class rifle built to shoot 80 gr bullets at about 3200 fps. It burned out 3 barrels before I caught on that barrel life was about 1000 rounds.

My current F Class is a 6.5-08 Ackley with a deep throat to take the 142 gr bullet. The 260 is a great cartridge in its own right. I gave it the Ackley treatment to increase powder capacity and velocity for long range performce. It works very well. Our rifles get 2900 to 3000 fps out of 30" to 32" barrels.
