What About Ziess Scopes?

all I know about them is they have something like 68moa adjustment on a 1 inch tube, and leupold mark 4's with their 30mm have 70ish. I dont know why and dont ask haha. I am interested in the differences too, and how they stack up. I have tinkered with a few, and I dont know.... I wasnt terrable impressed, but not upauled. Nice rifle choice!

Re Zeiss Scopes

I guess depending what you want to use the rifle for depends on wether or not you will find a Zeiss to siute your needs.
I have owned several Zeiss Conquest scopes. From what I have found I would take the Conquest before any Leupold VX III or Bushnell 4200 as far as Optical quality and durability is concerned. And I have owned several of the above and Zeiss is a far superior product.I would recomend the Zeiss Conquest over pretty much any scope on the market up to the $1200 range.
Contact reckoner1 in the dealer section. He has a great deal on a Brand new Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40.

Conquests are awesome!
do you want a 3-9x40?
You do not need a huge MOA range of adjustments. Those are for the 308 1K hitters. Even they go for canted bases..... but lets not divert...

The 22-250 will loose its uumph long before you run out of adjusments.

If you want mil-dots you'll have to go at least 4.5-14x50
the optics are excellent.
Have a friend run to Monroe and You know where to find them, I've seen where you used to live!

Huh?

Thanx for the replies, guys. I have a thread in the precision rifle section about what scope would be recommended. Was looking at some Ziess scopes at the shop that I bought the rifle from. Quite the wide range.

I figure I want one with target turrets on it. Maybe a mil dot recticle, aswell.

Cabelas in Monroe Michigan. 399 U$ for the 3-9x40. On sale......
You said you used to live in SW Ontario.
Sure you must know where that is......

Yeah I hear you. I just wanted to say that they have a tonload of elevation (and windage) with a 1 inch tube, and everyone else goes to the 30mm which is close. I dont get what zeiss is doing right is all I am saying. Or the competition is doing differently..... yess no canted base needed for a 22-250.

Peace

Ziess Conquest series = American made = decent quality
Ziess Diavari series = German made = Far superior quality and workmanship
Hendsolt = German made = military version of the Diavari series

I would stay away from the american made ones, put the two versions side by side and the difference in clarity and magnification is night and day.

I was on a precision rifle course a while back where there were all different kinds of high end rifles and scopes, including Zeiss. Were talking big bucks, in the 4-5 grand and more with the rifles and scopes. Guys were drooling over these rifles and scopes. On the first day at the range, the German made Zeiss scope crapped out and the dissapointed but initially proud owner had to resort to a loaner, much less expensive, although quality scope. The scope worked admirably. The top shooter on the course used a stock Remington Police Model with a Leupold Long Range M3 Scope... go figure.

In my opinioin you can't beat the Conquest scopes in their price range, they are very good optically and mechanically, although the higher end German Zeiss scopes have advantages they are more than double the price. The higher end scopes have others to content with also because Schmidt & Bender, Swarovski, Kahles and others offer superb instruments at the $2k mark, my favorite has been the S&B ever since I tried my first one in the late 80's.

you can't make it out in the store, though.
too much light.

All scopes can crap out.
We all know stories of such...

So far the winner af all scpes is Unertl. A myth that awaits the demissal of SuperSniper version of "el-cheapo"

Actually not all diavari scopes were made in Germany. Before the conquest was introduced the 3x9x36 diavari was made in the U.S. for a few years.I owned both the German and American diavaris and the German versions were not that superior to the American versons. The German version was finished nicer, but optically, the two weren't that different.

I was looking for a scope for my main hunting rig.

I searched like crazy, there are a lot of hunting and shooting websites in the states. In every one of them, there were at least a few "Zeiss vs. VXIII vs. (Whatever)". About 90% of the people who owned both a VXIII and a comparable Conquest liked the Conquest better.

Of course, there were a lot of people who chipped in to say that the Leupolds are great, who don't own a Conquest. But IMHO, the people who's opinion matters the most are the people who own and use both. And like I said, most of those people prefer the Zeiss.

There is a forum member who will ship Ziess scopes to Canada at Cabela's prices. (389.99 + 20 shipping for the 3-9x40)
