Didn't see anything so I'll ask in a new thread.

What seems to be the best reticle for an ACOG for tactical rifle/3 gun shoots primarly and less so but for Service Rifle as well?

I'm using a TA31 RCO with chevron reticle and really like it. It's very intuitive and quick. I know some other shooters like the donut reticle. From what I hear, most people select the chevron type though.

I shot a Service Rifle match on Sep 23-24 at Connaught with my wife's 14.5" carbine and her donut of death reticle. I was happy as heck with the bull-5's and vbulls I was getting. Worked for me at 200m and 300m.

She loved the donut of death as Rifledude will attest, at the Milcun / OSA Tactical Carbine Clinic and match in October. From 100 m and closer (10 meters) my wife and I just rocked with that donut reticle. That carbine shot like a laser beam as long as the shooter did their part.

On my 16" carbine, I've mounted a TA31 RCO M4 with chevron reticle. I prefer the finer aiming point since I will be shooting at ranges up to 500meters. My wife will only be shooting up to 300 meters with her donut of death reticle. That donut works for her and her style.

You on the other hand, must choose the reticle that works for YOU....

Hope this helps,
Barney

Donut can be quicker for acquisition because of it's size, chevron can be better for accuracy because it has a fine tip. I stress "can" because with practice the donut can be accurate also, but the chevron will generally be slower to acquire, this time difference can be somewhat very small. The reticle is calibrated such that the chevron tip is 100m and chevron bottom is 300m, donut top is 100m center 200m bottom 300m then in both cases every other range is stacia lines. Best recommendation is too look through different versions. I like the DOD (donut of death). Another option is triangle you get size and the tip, but you opscure your sight picture due to the solid reticle.

While I enjoyed the donut out to 100 yards, I prefer the chevron, and I have no problem picking it up using the BAC (both eyes open aiming technique).

The problem is there are no ACOGS around these parts. I've looked at some at Daves but I only get down there a few times a year now with kids in school.

Now that DemoDude has headed further North I am the only real HSLD guy around.

NAOH:

I'm surprised that you did not find any TA31's on the EE Forum. I seem to encounter quite a few of them while carrying out my 'cleanup' chores.

Do a search !!

Hope this helps,

I had a TA-31F for sale for $1250 shipped but I like it too much and kept it.
