Anyone want to take a stab at what action this is?

LH Winchester pre64?? (I have no idea, just guessing. It's got the Mauser claw extractor on it though.) I can't tell if the bases are machined onto the action or not either.

well, its definitely a round body with a Rem trigger.

Is it a production or semi-production?

It would be pretty close to one of a kind.

You are so close it isn't fair to keep you in suspense any longer?:D

Of all things it is a LH 700 that has been extensively reworked by Butch Searcy. Including, as you pointed out, that lug being welded to the bottom of the receiver ring.

Just being facitious?, a lot of thought and labour went into that action, I wonder what the bottom $ line was. Would like to see a pic. of the final product - it must be a fine example of a custom rifle. --- John303.

I've seen the recoil lug conversion in a gunsmithing book, i think Sterling Davenport was doing it to get rid of the look of the recoil lug btwn the barrel and receiver.

I like and prefer the Model 70's, esp the pre-64's and Classics but I sure can;t see going through that much effort.

I suppose that one was done before the lefty Classics were available though.

Kind of neat in a 'anything can be done' sort of way.
