What alternatives are there to Volquartsen?

I watched a youtube video of Kirsten Joy Weiss shooting an egg at 300 yards, offhand, with a 22 rimfire Volquartsen rifle. I'm an experienced (52 years) shooter who can make use of an accurate rifle, so it wouldn't go to waste on me (although shooting an egg at 300 yards offhand with a 22 rimfire is likely beyond my skill set). So I started looking at Volquartsen rifles and they are fairly pricey. Are there any other options out there that are just as accurate but not as expensive. I don't want one of those bench shooting rifles with the ultra-heavy barrel, as I want to be able to pack this into the wilderness with me. If I have to shell out the dollars for a Volquartsen, then I'll do it, but no use wasting money if there are other options just as good but cheaper. If I could put 10 rounds (22 rimfire) into 2" at 100 yards, I'd be satisfied. This is no big deal for centrefire rifles, but my Winchester Model 68 single shot just will not do it.

Also, I really like the sight picture in that scope that she was using, with its little cross graduations for various ranges. I only have iron sights on all my rifles, so don't know anything about scopes. If I get a Volquartsen, I'd want to get a scope that would do that little rifle justice. What are your recommendations?

There are several companies, (Tac-Sol comes to mind) that build quality aftermarket parts for the 10-22 - which is basically what the Volquartsen is. A highly modified and accurate 10-22, but still basically a 10-22. And yes, all of the quality aftermarket parts tend to be pricey, but you get what you pay for. If you want to build your own from parts, they are available from a few of the vendors on this site. If you want a whole rifle your best bet is probably either the Volquartsen, or contact Leigh at Dlask (Site sponsor) and have them build you one.

Scopes are a whole nother kettle of fish, and the sky is the limit. From what I can find on the interweb, she's using a 2.5-10x42mm Nightforce. Dang nice scope, but I know for these old eyes (Over 50) I'd need more than a 10 power scope to even see the egg at 300 yards. But if you think the Volquartsen is pricey, wait till you start looking at Nightforce.

Wanstall's sells Tac Sol, call them to find out what they have in stock. Dlask builds really great guns and carries Kidd parts. Dlask is the only place I know of who'll build you a 10/22 with a threaded on barrel. Basically they'll build exactly what you want, pricing is pretty good too.

You get what you pay for... simple fact of life. There is a reason that Volquartsen is pricey.

Kidd Ultralight is a great option. Lightweight and very accurate.Dlask can build you one.

Dlask also has their new CFW barrel. It looks promising but I’ve never played with one. I’d probably still take the Kidd barrel since the price difference is minor.

Not the easiest site to find stuff on. The 10/22 related parts are kind of spread out. Especially barrels. But lots of good stuff. I would also reccomend going on YouTube and looking up 22Plinkster. He is a incredible shooter and has review videos on many quality 22 rifles including Volquartsen and Tactical Solutions. Some great info on there.
Athlon also makes some optics worth looking at with great features for rimfire. Go Big Tactical carries their products.
Perhaps also there are some Gun Nuts on here that live nearby that would let you handle some of these options before you buy?
Happy shopping!

Volquartsen are cool, and you can actually get they're carbon barrels for a decent dollar compared to other aftermarket stuff, but you may just want to get an Anschutz, new or used and scope it, they are built for accuracy, a friend does biathlon skiing and shoots from standing, they are something else but not necessarily light weight.

Go Big Tactical a site sponsor would be able to hook you up with a scope, So would Jerry with Mystic precision, GBT may have more options, I would trust either, just call them and talk about what your wanting and your budget and Im sure they can give a suitable choice...

Another option is the 4-24x50 Strike eagle, see my "how to import thread", said and done $521.

I had a Tactical Solutions X-Ring for a while. I tried some Eley practice ammo through it one time rested off the bench and it was making small three and four shot cloverleafs at 25 yards. Likely it would do even better but I quickly learned that bench rest shooting is as much a specialty skill as anything else.

The trigger was really sweet on that rifle. Felt superb in the hands and in the shooting position. It's gone now though. I've learned that I'm not a semi auto sort of guy and it just didn't get used.

I very much appreciate all this input. Thanks! I mull this over. The decision will not be hasty, but it will be good.
