Hi,

A friend swears he shot this animal in south Quebec. He told me he tried to register it. Since it's not a moose or deer he could not (Officer's response). He continues to hunt legaly after that.

It looks like a very bit goat or some kind on antelope. I am pretty sure it's an exotic animal.

The weight of the animal is 350pounds.

Tod ( he of the NICE lookin' ladies ) is right on ! Nilgai or Nilgai Antelope, largest of the Asian Antelope species - sometimes called "Blue Bull " (colour of the adult males ) Exotic ? ... I guess, meaning not native to North America, ( native to Central India) but otherwise a common Texas Game Farm choice for the "I'll pay to hunt it - canned hunt crowd." Probably more captive or farm-raised Nilgai in North America than there remains wild in India.

What possessed your friend to kill an animal that he doesn't even have the first clue as to what species it is ??? An " if it's brown - it's down" advocate ?

Any Exotics or non-indigenous animals are not covered under the Fish and Game act... and they should not be running wild. Good job by your Buddy. If I see a Nilgai, a Fallow Deer, a Russian Boar or a Giraffe for that matter on any of our properties guess what... Game On.... I'm eating exotic!

Thanks TodB for the fast reply.

I suppose he was thinking:

A very strange demonical look specie that your friends will never belive you without a proof.

A thing that your hunting buddies will laugh about you for the rest of your life if they don't see it.

An animal that you better shut up and keep the secret for you in your grave if you don't retreive it.

Maybe it is escaped from a ranch near by.

I'll let you know

When species like that get out, and particularily if they breed with native wildlife they can destroy whole ecosystems. Good call taking it down.

Look like a bearded swamp buck I saw in the Bognor area a long time ago...... :)

Good call on shooting it. I'm still waiting for a Bison to escape from the local farm. I will be booking some holidays for that hunt.

Thats roughly what conservation agent said to him: This animal was not supposed to run wild also don't lose your time trying to register it. You can go deer hunting now.

Thanks!

They are supposed to be very tough to kill and very tasty. The same thing applies to us if we se a wood bison that wanderes out of Wood Buffalo natinal park, it happens ocasionally.

If he knew what it was why not, but being unsure I don't think I would have shot. Mind you my grandfather had to hunt a few cattle before moose season back in the 60's, the farmer had a few get free and go wild. The farmer not far from my Dad's place has an elk farm, are they up for grabs (Southern Ontario, near Stratford) too if they get out? Only problem with that is there are now wild ones, what would the CO say.

Probably an escapee from Parc Safari Africaine in Hemmingsford Quebec... Too bad he didnt get one of the baboons that ripped the antenna off my car several years ago.

That's some funny $hit!! LMAO
I'm just imagining your buddy out hunting. (Probably still hunting) and then this thing comes prancing out..."WTF is THAT??!?!" "Ahhhh 4uck it!" KERPOW!!

One for the pan!!
I wonder what it tastes like?!?!

If that thing was domestic it might have been treated with antibotics or something recently in which case you might not want to eat it.

And people complain about what dinks the game wardens can be. This guy should be giving lessons at Game Warden School.

I'd buy him a doughnut, but that's what real cops eat. Not sure about fish cops;)
