I mean when you first get into shooting or hunting, what are things you need to buy.
I'm guessing a gun cleaning kit, a gun storage locker or safe or both, a gun travel bag, a knife for hunting, a pickup truck.

Other than the gun and ammunition what else do people need to buy?

Edit: Trigger locks.

If some of these are unnecessary for non-restricted let me know.

Need to take the hunting course, hunters orange gear, ear plugs if you like your hearing, ranges near me require shooting glasses, trigger locks (can't be to safe), good boots, knives, knife sharpener, trail tape, compass/GPS......the list is endless...

In short order you will end up with an entire house full of stuff that comes in handy. Everything is essential at one point or another.

I would say the essentials are:
Gun
Ammo
Secure Container, you don't need separate storage and transport cases but that is usually a good idea so that you're not leaving your gun in a case that might be absorbing moisture.
Suitable lock, not all locks work equally, some are too short or too fat. I recommend combination locks, that way you can pick and choose what locks will have the same combination so that if necessary you can change a combo and lend a firearm to someone. Keys seem to reproduce faster than rabbits, first you have one for your storage container and one for your transport container, and then you get one for each trigger lock and next thing you know you have twelve.
Cleaning kit, may or may not require things like screwdrivers or punches.
Personal Protective Equipment, generally noise reducing ear protection and shooting glasses. Just today I had 2 separate brass cases eject directly into my face. Bounced off my glasses and would have hit me right in the eye if I wasn't wearing PPE.

Smart phone ie iPhone can be used as a gps, and store handy things such
As hunting regs/discharge bylaws etc (saves some money if you have one already)

camo / blaze orange gear

Game calls

bore sight is handy

Allen keys

Small flat head screw driver

Depending on the type of unrestricted rifle,
You can forget trigger locks and remove bolt and store separately

first aid kit

Don't feel like you need to buy all the hunter's kit at once if you're not going to be hunting just yet. I'd say focus more on range and firearm stuff for now. Get farmiliar with your gun, be nice and accurate.
As for hunting gear, sales are always nice. Boxing day sales could be to your advantage. Don't just buy the cheapest stuff, do a bit of research. If you've got some buddies or co-workers who hunt, I'm sure they could talk your ear off about what to bring.

I have no family, or co-workers that hunt so I do alot of research to compensate.
Lol about the stapler.
