What are my options for a FFP scope for around $1500?

I've been looking at the following:

Vortex PST Gen II 3-15
Nightforce SHV F1 4-14
Leupold VX3i LRP 4.5-14

Out of the three I've listed I'm leaning towards the Vortex. From what I've googled peopled seem to like them a lot because of the warranty. I've also read more about them breaking than any of the others. Maybe because they are so popular you're bound to read about it more. The Nightforce is pricier than than the other two-- I also couldn't find any real information on their warranty policy in Canada. As for the Leupold I heard they have good warranties and good glass.

Am I missing an obvious choice?

Oh yeah, it's going to be put on a 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun.
 
Nightforce doesn't have a warrenty. If you have problems send it back and they will do repairs on your dollar.
If you buy the nightforce you are buying the scope and if you buy a vortex you are buying a warrenty that happens to be on a scope. No comparison in my opinion.

I have had my 4-14 f1 for 3 years and i have beat it up pretty bad hunting up mountains, in and out of the truck and through heavy brush. I love it for a hunting scope.

On the Nightforce non warrenty:
I have a friend that had a turret bind up after a bunch of cranking up and down left and right and 4 years on a 50bmg. It was an 8-32 nxs. He sent it back on his dime for repairs and expected a hefty bill but when it came back he had a paper saying 'nothing wrong with scope found, no charge to customer ' the scope was fixed and had obviously been worked on.

Watch the Nightforce torture test on thier website too it is quite amusing how badly they abuse the scope and it works fine.

Im sure the other scopes are fine but i would shell out for the nightforce any day.

This is incorrect as they do warranty at no charge to customer and the service is the tops.Their knowledgeable staff work hard to look after customers. Of course with Nightforce you are less likely to require warranty and this is partly why many militaries are dumping other brands in favour of Nightforce.

Popularity with all types of competition shooters remains high due to modern mechanical and reticle design with strong customer support.

This might not be on your list, Bushnell Elite Tactical LRTS either the 4-18 or 3-12 both are FFP and illuminated reticle also is an option, I’m happy with mine, and have both, more Scope knowledgeable cgners hopefully will give their thoughts
 
Personally, I find Nightforce to be the best bang for your buck. Great quality glass, great build, precise turrets. I had a shv and it was a great scope! Only reason I don't have it anymore is because I upgraded to nx8 scopes for the reticles.

Can't go won't with the Nightforce. They also hold their value better in my opinion.
 
Athlon has an option above and below your price point. Below your price point at $1190 is:
Athlon Ares BTR Gen2 4.5-27x50 FFP, available in a few reticles and MOA or MIL.

This is the answer. I have multiple of the 3-12 LRTSi and one of the 4.5-18 LRTS. They are super solid scopes with good reticles, great turrets and (in my experience) track perfectly. I also previously had the NF SHV 4-14 F1. I honestly think the Bushnells are better scopes. The SHV is a quality scope, don't get me wrong but the Mil-R (or MOA-R) is a dated reticle for a precision rifle imo and the 5 mil/rotation turrets and "zero set" (vs zero stop) are less than ideal. If NF offered the SHV F1 with updated reticle choices and 10 mil/turn turrets it would be a more fair comparison.

Peter you are very correct on this point. Nightforce will look after you just as good as Vortex will...you just don't hear about Nightforce problems that often. Phil.
 
+1 for Bushnell LRTS. It is manufactured by Light Optical Works in Japan, the same folks who make Nightforce and a few Vortex scopes also.

Frontier Firearms has the 3-12's for a great price right now.

You could also put Burris XTR II on your list, and Sightron S III,

The vortex PST gen II 3-15 is actually a very good design as far as FOV, eyebox and optical quality. Got a really nifty zeroing system. I just prefer the smaller form factor and lighter weight of the LRTS (which also comes with a lifetime warranty)

Personally, I have not tried the Leupold LRP. I used to have a number of Leupold scopes - currently I have zero. The weight (or lack thereof) of the LRP is attractive, but I'm a bit reluctant to get back on that horse.
 
I own the viper, and a friend of mine has the leupold. I almost bought the nightforce, then I stumbled on Athlon. I ended up getting an Ares ETR. It is excellent! Feature packed, great reticle, locking windage turret, super easy zero stop and zero resets. Overall an awesome scope, that I think is on par with vortex razor.
