Hi Folks,

Looking to get into the game, and I must admit that the 110 Elite Precision has caught my eye, but no dealer near me (2-3 hour drive) has them that I know of to take a look.

If you've handled one, or better yet own one, I would love your thoughts!

I messed around with one awhile ago when Cabelas first had them. I know savages shoot and wont knock one but in my honest opinion, they're over priced for what they are. You could easily find parts on the EE for cheaper and build one to your spec and whatever caliber you desire. And at the end of the day, you still have a Savage rifle in and MDT chassis that you paid big money for. If you wanting to spend that kind of money check out my review on the Bergara line of rifles, I just posted in this forum. Would highly recommend giving those a look. Also the Tikka Tac A1 would also be a very good option, as would the Ruger Precision.

Check out Extreme Range Outiftters in Saskatoon, SK. Ben and Gord are stand up individuals who know their stuff and are very, very good to deal with. They have a few used options for less money that would allow you to put some good glass on it as well. Give them a call and maybe they can help you out.

I will read that!

I'm confused though, I thought MDT was held in high esteem for their Chassis? I would have thought chassis alone it would stand above the RPR.

I posted some thoughts in my owners thread on CGN.

I think the value proposition is strong. You are paying $1200 for the chassis and $800 for the barreled action, muzzle break, magazine, and scope base.

My hunting rifle is a savage 116, and it's an accurate workhorse, but holy #### is the bolt lift and close stiff as hell. That's a big reason why I want to upgrade to something higher quality. Just another savage 110 stealth with a different chassis? ps5 release date

When I first started shooting in the early 90's Savage made accurate and affordable firearms, but the finish wasn't their strong point. Over the year they have introduced good features like their AccuTrigger and AccuStock and their price point has crept up. They are now in the same niche as Tikkas but I find their quality control and attention to detail isn't on par. I recently bought a Savage 220 slug gun. There was a blemish on the receiver, the outside of the barrel was scratched and one of the buttplate screw sockets was cracked (I found out when adjusting the AccuStock). Savage wanted me to send the gun to their canadian warranty centre, but their Canadian Distributor stepped up and is getting me new shotgun...But it's now on back order and I am wondering if I will get it in time for the (slug only) hunting season...

I have an Elite Precision in .308 . Other then not being able to get super accuracy out of the 175 grain bullets , ( SMK , Lapua and Hornady ) , the 168 SMK has been just fine . With my rifle , build quality has been high and it feeds , extracts and elects flawlessly . The action is very smooth , and although it's a factory trigger , mine breaks under 1.5lb's very nicely . The stock is fantastic . The throat is fairly short and you can easily touch the lands and still feed through the mag . It's been SUPER hot the last 3 months so I've not been able to really fine tune a load , but , the last time out , it was shooting 5 shot groups under 1/2 moa at 200M . As soon as it cools down a bit , I'll be getting much deeper into tuning a load .

I am not sure what the concern is with the bolt lift . I can easily cycle the bolt with very little effort while maintaining a full sight picture . Now , if you are trying to compare the action to a full custom aftermarket unit , no , it's likely not as slick . But , that's not a fair comparison .

Here are my impressions on the Savage 110 Tactical elite.

ACTION
This is one of the nicest finishes I have seen on a Savage.
A nice deep blue, not some cheaper finish that will rub off.
Scope rail screws are #8-40 instead of the standard #6-48 we usually see.
It’s my first Savage action to actually fling brass real far and positively, I believe they made propper mods for it to be PRS worthy.
Uses large shank barrel threads, may limit your existing barrels interchangeability.
Comes with a notched barrel nut and keyed recoil lug.
Bolt lift wasn’t any worse than any other Savage I’ve owned.
Closing the bolt was tough, as if the bolt head is machined too tight in relation to the action, and needs a certain break in.

TRIGGER
Standard accutrigger.
Does not go as low as advertised.

CHASSIS
This MDT ACC chassis rocks.
I have now since sold my Savage 110 Elite, but have that very same chassis on order for an R700 footprint custom action.
Since you are getting this chassis from the factory, it’s only set up for top bolt release, has no oval action screw hole to accommodate both action type screw spacings, and has cool engraved Savage logos.

BARREL
Couldn’t get mine to shoot even if my life depended on it.
I am a stubborn SOB, I rather sell something that doesn’t shoot Varget + 175 SMKs than trying to experiment with other combinations.
Barrel profile could be much heavier, it’s thicker that many factory barrels but they should of gone full M40 profile if you’re going to advertise as a PRS specific gun.
Muzzle threads are 5/8x24 and use a step behing it making their factory brake pretty much proprietary.

MUZZLE BRAKE
Much louder and much less efficient than my insite heathens, didn’t like it.
At least it was well indexed.

Ended up selling it as my gun safe is going 180,
Selling everything Savage and going Bighorn Origin builds from now on.
Too bad I had just received my IBI large shank barrel that I’m stuck with now.
In my experience, the nicest Savage I have ever owned, but make yourself a favour, and change barrel for a heavier profile at the earliest convenience.
With this type of chassis it’s not like you’re going on a hike to hunt with this, this chassis is made for M40 Heavy barrels at a MINIMUM!

Received it, in a reloaders caliber, not in something common.
If interested let’s move this to private messaging.

In the spirit of staying on topic, if you are asking the question I take it your barrel still isn’t on point with your expectations?
Myself had found this ridiculous than an old Savage 308 in an HS precision stock was outshooting (by a large margin) this premium Savage, which is I think the most expensive offering the company has to offer.

I could not get the 175's to shoot well at all . However , I tried the 168 SMK and it seemed significantly better . Only had 15 rounds that I loaded over 4064 in FGMM brass and it shot sub 1/2 MOA at 200M in a 10mph wind with no flags , 3 times in a row . 4 shots in 3 different groups in a ragged hole 1/4 MOA with a fifth shot bringing the groups to low .400's .
So , I will test this load again under better conditions hopefully soon . The 175's never shot anywhere near that well for me . ( ??? )
