bout to sink some $ into a 10.5" spikes tac upper. I heard short barreled rifles are prone to problems, is this the case still? would be used w a vulcan lower, or a norinco lower

Make sure you have the right buffer and extractor. The shorties are alot louder to and spew more junk back on the bolts. What buffer does the lower have? If you havent already bought a Vulcan or Nork lower, maybe get something else. I have some spikes stuff, thier stuff seems to be ok mostly.

I run a 7.5"Dlask AR and have had zero problems. Perhaps Josef built/spec'd it out properly.
Yes it's a little louder but that's not a problem (for me) IMO.

They are fire breathing dragons.... just keep it lubed and run quality ammo and you are all good. They are louder and get dirty quicker but they also are full as hell.... As noted by USp you need the correct buffer setup. I also realy like the units that are being produced by spike ( I have 2 lowers from them)

I have a 7.5 in 5.56 and 9mm and a 10.5 in 5.56 and they all run without any issue when are properly lubed. They do choke when dirty and dry.

Anything shorter than 16" is inadmissible to the USA. (If that matters to you.)

I'd consider that to be a disadvantage.

The flames are apparently large when it fires out..... I've never really noticed it because I'm usually firing the rifle! 10.5 inch AR's are fun. Loud and the loudness is so distinct that people think there is a rifle really big firing off when drive up to the range!

I believe that there are also some U.S. states (i.e. New York State) that frown upon stocks that can be adjusted in length. Not to hijack this thread, but does anyone have any experience with taking an AR-15 with adjustable length stock into New York State on a Form 6[FONT=&quot]?
