Just curious as to what's out terr but seems to be red dots require a separate 3 x magnifier is there a good red dot that doesn't need a magnifying and has magnification settings on the optic???

All reddot optics require a separate magnifier. The whole point to a reddot is their zero magnification and the ability to rapidly acquire the reticle for short to intermediate distance shooting. The addition of magnifiers is an attempt to gain more from the optic than it was intended for.

And that completely does away with the only real advantage of a red dot...

Vortex Strikefire and Sparc have the option of the 2x screw in doubler. The Strikefire has a swing away 3x magnifier. The extended eye relief is maintained. gives you the option of 2x or add the 3x behind and you get 6x if my math works. What more do you want?
