I’m looking into purchasing a spotting scope for sheep hunting this year. This is my first year getting into sheep hunting and I am wondering what is a decent spotting scope? And what size should I go with (65 or 85)?
I’ve heard the 66mm Kowas are excellent. Plus you can get a 30x wide angle eyepiece.
I have a Nikon ed50, with both the mc2 eyepiece and the 28x wide angle. It’s very light so I always have it, plus the optics are great for the price.
Best thing to do would be look through as many as you can, see what works best for your eyes. Don’t forget to mount your Binos on a tripod.
Something to keep in mind, sheep hunting on foot is all about fast & light. I only carried my spotter for one season then decided to leave it at home and rely on my 10x42 Razor HD's. 12x50's might be a hair more useful but I found a great deal on the EE and we are really focusing on cutting weight these days.
If you're horse packing or don't care and want to carry the extra few pounds of glass and a tripod, the Kowa's are definitely one of the best deals going.
