there's quite the plethora of options out there now and a lot of older or niche stuff gets forgotten or pushed aside, but is still worth considering if you need a new rifle that fits the niche those cartridges filled.

what do you think some of those are?

The good ol' 303. It's not dead, but definitely has its place in history. It's probably killed more soldiers than any other (well, maybe a toss-up between it and the 7.62X54), just about wiped out the elephant, took countless moose, water buffalo, you name it.

Another one I'd have to include would be the 32 Special. Not a huge advantage over the 30-30, but just a tad heavier.

.32 Remington....because my grandpa hunted with one in the 1930s. M141 pump. My uncle still has it.

30/32/35 Rem were supposed to compete with the 30/30 & 32 win spec. Only the 35 Rem ended up sticking around. These cartridges are neat for nostalgia, but there is no practical reason to take one over a common as dirt 30/30.

I'm into 25/20, but I see one of our sponsor now has some factory fresh ammo.
But at around $100/50 it's a bit steep.

You sir, need to find a copy of Cartridges of the World. It's about 600 pages of current, obsolete and wildcat cartridges.

Not sure what edition they're at but older ones are often pretty cheap and may even be available to download in PDF.

That will only result in endless threads on endless topics...
