What are those things called that inserted into the shotgun barrels?

I have a BP 12ga cylinder shotty. Bought it with intent to reload, but will never get enough time for that. Can I buy those inserts that change caliber to somethng smaller, but will allow me to shoot modern rounds out of her? What are they called and who sells them in Canada?
 
yes they are pricey to get anything from briley. gagnon sports in oshawa is a canadian dealer for briley who is out of huston texas. the drop in version of these only work as intended in sxs or o/u guns. in a pump or semi auto you're reduced to a single shot, because the magazine being larger will not hold or feed the smaller shells properly.
 
I think it is Cabela's sells inserts but they are only as long as the shell, not a full barrel insert, comes in a set. made more for youth/woman that can't handle a full 12g recoil.
 
Is the old BP action strong enough to take any rifle round? I thought it would be possible to use a cheap rifle barrel as a tube, but will the break action hold?

I am talking about a 1890 or so antique Belgian laminate steel SxS shotty.
 
I don't think any stress is transfered to the barrel with the Savage tube, as it is free floating, with O rings to centre them. IMHO

Gauge Mates are also popular gauge reducers. It does lower the pressures to some degree. Google them and I think they have the pressures listed on their website.
 
the short version drop in tubes are just pulled in and out with your fingers. the full length briley tubes come with a knocker tool that seats them from the chamber end and to remove you use the knocker from the muzzle.
 
I have a set of the little skeeters tubes for a 12g O/U reducing to 20g.
You insert the tubes in the gun, then load the 20g shell. Point and shoot.
Open the action, remove tube with shell still inside then remove spent shell from tube (it helps if you have fingernails) Reinsert tube and repeat. If you have ejectors, you should prevent it from flinging the tubes as they could get damaged.
I haven't patterned the gun with the tubes, but that would be a good idea.
 
the patterns from the short briley drop in tubes or from brownings "little skeeters" are surprisingly good. my set of little skeeters shows a really good pattern in a 28 ga. reducers , shot through 12 ga. bore and muzzle choked at modified.
 
The gauge mates inserts come in two styles, gold and silver. The gold models remain in the chamber and the extractors still work. The silver model has to be removed and the shell taken out like the lil' skeeters. The golds are pretty pricey. I've never used them, but from internet posts they work well.
