Do you have a red dot, be it a rifle or pistol dot on your shotgun? What's your application? Hunting, sporting or wilderness defense? I'm curious about those running optics on shotguns and would like to hear your experiences.

I’m running a Vortex Venom on my new semi auto competition gun, I’ve never run a dot on a shotgun before but I’m certainly enjoying it. I run red dots on just about everything I shoot so it’s a pretty easy transition to the shotgun. After a lifetime of running a simple bead sight I just can’t get used to “ ghost ring” sights on a shotgun, so I threw the red dot on and I’m loving it

Been running vortex spitfire on everything these days, my astigmatism is getting worse had to retire the aimpoints few years ago unfortunately

i have a few diff one on diff shotguns,i have 2 swampfox red dot 1 is the sentinel model the other is a kingslayer, both are great i have holosun also 507 and 403 both also great, and if your budget is small the bushnell trs-25 is very good for the price.

I'm running a Holosun HS510C on my Versa Max open/unlimited gun (3-gun rig). I find just about every optic you mount on a shotgun is way too high (Not a fan of a chin weld, especially on a shotgun), so I made a custom mounting plate and took off the pic rail adapter.

The 2MOA center dot is great for slugs, the 65MOA ring works well enough for shot, and the window is big enough that you can still see some stuff.

Vortex Venom 3 moa on a slug only 12" barrel,
Holosun HS507C X2 with the 2moa dot/32moa ring reticle on a receiver that takes both 18" smoothbore cylinder (slugs/00) and 28" removable choke for clay shooting
All others have bead sights/fiber optic front sights

ACROs and EoTech are my preferred red-dots for shotgun applications. The bigger the window the better....

Holosun 503 circle/dot on my 1301T with Aridus mount.
The 65MOA circle makes for really quick acquisition and is about the size of 00 Buck pattern at 30yrd

Holosuns with 65MOA ⭕️ circle for the win.
It’s pretty high tech to be able to have a circle reticle that approximates your buckshot pattern.
The 65 MOA does well with good buckshot loads like federal flitecontrol out to 25yds. Run of the mill bulk buckshot will shoot a bit bigger.

Holosun 407c 2 moa red on a truglo rib mount way out on muzzle end of a 28” barrel. And a Holosun EPS with green mrs reticle on the cut out at back end of receiver of new Mossberg 940 pro.

The red flares pretty bad for me but no issues with 2 moa way out on end of a long shotgun it’s still small enough dot even flared. Fov is not a thing with this mounting position, there is no fov really. You have a dot inside a really big black square ring so to speak.
The green mrs on the mossberg is amazing, and the full size window of the EPS (not compact ‘carry’ model) means fov is a thing but being so close to your face it’s huge bright fov and very easy to find and keep dot. The green mrs reticl in this location gives me no astigmatism flare, and prefer the 32 moa circle only as thats 16” at 50 or 8” at 25 but it’s a buckshot slugs set up...for a bird set up I’d probably switch the reticle to the dot only? Maybe not? The circle is a great representation of the pattern so it would need experimenting without on some clays to decide.

They are both solar and can be run without their batteries but do have battery for night duty etc. Plus shake awake and manual modes etc. Holosun is some top gear. Small and lightweight, worry free eith solar.
